Customer Profile: NFI

Frank Trzaska knows trucks. And he knows them well. As Director of Maintenance Support, Frank has been with NFI for eight years. But he’s been working on trucks since he was a young man of just 16.

“I started working for a company washing their trucks. It was considered a promotion when I got to fuel them up,” he shares. “And ever since then, I’ve worked my way up.”

Thirty-five years later, Frank is among the most experienced transportation maintenance professionals, working for one of North America’s largest integrated supply chain solutions providers.

The company started in 1932 with one truck and now provides the whole spectrum of supply chain services, from transportation and logistics to warehousing and distribution—and a whole lot more.

One of the company’s key divisions is NFI Transportation, which includes a sizable fleet of more than 2,000 tractors and 7,200 trailers. It is important to NFI to keep a young fleet, with an average tractor age of 32 months.  This offers drivers and the driving public an advantage: “Our trucks are some of the safest on the road,” he says.

Reliable products

And with the help of Delco Remy products, the fleet is also highly dependable—something very important to NFI, seeing as they’ve tripled the size of their business in the last nine years.

The NFI fleet uses the 39MT starter, the 36SI alternator and the 40SI alternator.

“We’ve been using Delco Remy products for a long time. It’s a reliable company with reliable products, which is key to minimizing downtime and maximizing business,” Frank says.

He also appreciates Delco Remy’s solid warranty. “It just proves they believe in their product as much as we do.”

And a responsive representative

Equally important to Frank is the relationship he has with Pat Brilly, his Delco Remy aftermarket representative. Pat visits NFI throughout the year to touch base and discuss any alternator or starter needs facing the fleet.

“It’s nice that two large companies can actually have a personal and professional relationship. Pat visits us regularly to check and make sure we’re satisfied. But even when he’s not here, he’s just a phone call away. I’ve never had to talk to anyone else at the company because whatever we need, Pat always provides us with the solutions we want.”
