The primary function of the Supplier Development Engineer is to provide supplier development leadership and support to Advanced Purchasing, Global Commodity Management, Plant Supplier Quality, Program Management, and the Morse Systems supply base globally. The supplier Development Engineer is responsible for managing new supplier components in support of Morse Systems growth strategies. The Supplier Development Engineer will be assigned specific Commodities.
In support of operational excellence, responsible for leading Morse Systems supplier development and continuous improvement activity to improve supplier performance in the pursuit of zero quality defects in production and flawless new product launches. Support Morse Systems Supply Chain global sourcing initiatives of reducing supply base cost and reducing the cost of direct material. Provide leadership in training, mentoring and developing Supplier partners. Oversee major supplier quality issues and assist Morse Systems manufacturing operations in problem resolution. Conduct benchmarking to identify and implement best practices for supplier quality and supplier development. Involves business travel up to 50-75% of the time

1.      Interface with advanced purchasing team for the development and release of Best-in-Class Suppliers to BorgWarner according to Commodity Strategies.

2.      Provide new product launch support to the Morse System Operations and supply base utilizing BorgWarner common Supplier Quality launch processes (Site Assessments, Risk Management, APQP, Early Production Containment, PPAP, We Are Ready Audits/Run @ Rate, etc.). The position is also responsible for developing these skills with the supply base.

3.      Conducts APQP/Technical Reviews for new product launches, reviewing Critical characteristics, FMEAs, control plan, pass through characteristic, etc., prior to PPAP submission and release.

4.      Support Supply Chain Management Supplier Improvement Initiatives by utilizing the BorgWarner common supplier quality improvement processes (3rd party controlled shipping, process audits, problem resolution (8D), pass through characteristic reviews, Supplier Conferences, etc.).

5.      Assist the Morse System Operations in Supplier performance improvement (reduction in PPM and Incidents). Participate and support manufacturing locations on the "Top Focused Supplier" meetings.

6.      Provides assistance to suppliers to meet BorgWarner supplier expectations and requirements as stated in the BorgWarner Supplier Quality Manual

7.      Facilitate the development, sharing, and implementation of "Best Practice" methods and ideas across BorgWarner and the Supply Base.

8.      Communicate the current condition of Supplier quality management, including Supplier/OEM performance and improvement efforts, clearly and effectively.
