SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer provides quality support to assigned production operations and ensures the integrity of components and products produced. The individual proactively drives quality improvement efforts in assigned areas with the goal of achieving "zero defect" performance. The role also supports process improvement and problem-solving efforts with the focus on protecting and improving product quality and satisfying both internal and external customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees integrity of product quality for assigned area through participation as integral part of a cross-functional manufacturing team.
  • Drives and champions quality improvement efforts.
  • Provides expert analysis, guidance and support to Production in Process Improvement activities, including effective use of Problem-Solving tools / techniques and statistical analysis.
  • Responsible for New Product Qualification, and verification of changes to current product.
  • Through the application of APQP, supports the internal and external customers in new product introduction and change management.
  • Ensures that internal customer needs for quality control systems are met in a timely and functional manner.
  • Results for this position will be measured by improvements to Customer Satisfaction (customer scorecards, customer quality incidents, customer PPM), Internal Scrap rate, and First Pass Yield.
  • Optimizes process capability on significant characteristics through effective application of statistical analysis techniques and training of production in problem solving.
  • Applies knowledge of inspection equipment and techniques to provide timely data usable for informed decision-making.
  • Utilizes analytical skill sets to implement root cause analysis and provide recommendations for robust corrective action.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering/Technology
  • Minimum two years Manufacturing Engineering /Quality Assurance experience in automotive manufacturing
  • APQP (PFMEA/Control Plan) creation and maintenance of APQP documents.
  • RCA and Problem solving training experience
  • Knowledge of advanced quality planning, inspection equipment and techniques, root cause failure analysis, capability studies, statistical distributions, machine (metalworking) and assembly processes, problem solving, team facilitation, G D & T, and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001/TS16949 automotive quality standards required.
  • Above average computer skills in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT, Access.
  • Experience in Minitab for statistical analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge of AIAG standards for FMEA, SPC, MSA, and PPAP preferred.
  • Experience with supplier development a plus.
  • ASQ QE Certification a plus.
