To provide daily complex technical assistance to department personnel in an effort to improve the quality of production and process flow. Provide input and assistance in the coordination on continuous improvements to machinery or processes within the department. Write and maintain CNC and CMM programs and process documentation.


  • Serves as departmental liaison between Engineering Resources and the production Floor and assist with implementation of safety, quality, and process improvements into the department.
  • Coordinates with Manufacturing Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, Vendors, Customers, and Engineering to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Serves as the facilitator for complex department projects relating to Manufacturing including planning, scheduling, training, implementation, and documentation of solutions.
  • Perform test and analyze data to improve department functions and assist with daily manufacturing support.
  • Creates and maintains department ISO 9000-2001 and TS 16949 documentation in accordance with set standards in an effort to support the existing quality systems.
  • Assists the maintenance team when required to perform or coordinate the preventative maintenance or machine repairs on departmental equipment.
  • Assists the Department Manager, Production Facilitator, and Engineering with the implementation of new or modified production lines in the department.
  • Develops CNC programs for various lathes and mills to meet specifications of engineering drawings, ensure quality parts and provide customer satisfaction.
  • Interprets 3D models or drawings from programs such as PRO-E, UG, IGES, etc
  • Works with Manufacturing Engineering and Design departments to review prints for ease of machining in a production environment.
  • Works with Manufacturing Tool Design to develop concepts for Fixtures, Cutting Tools and New Products.
  • Recommends and implements improvements to current manufacturing processes and tooling.
  • Uses MasterCam, BravoNCG, or manually develops the appropriate tool path, determines the correct process and selects the correct tooling.
  • Writes complex programs and implements quality control systems using CMM, Comparator, and Hommel to verify the machine tools are manufacturing a quality product.
  • Provides technical support to complex production processes and machinery as well as supply the department manager with advice and solutions relating to machine and process functions.
  • Makes recommendations for improving the machining operation, design changes, tooling changes and manufacturing process for cost efficiency.
  • Inspects machined parts as necessary using indicators, micrometers, calipers and related devices for optimal accuracy.
  • Assists in procurement of new tooling and fixtures.
  • Tests and evaluates new programs and performs any necessary edits.
  • Evaluates current CNC programs and makes improvements, utilizing new tooling, new processes, or other methods.
  • Works with minimal supervision and manages processes.
  • Manages DNC system for storage and retrieval of production CNC programs.
  • Audits CNC machines to ensure conformance to quality standards.
  • Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Attendance on the job is essential.


  • A high school diploma, GED or equivalent is required, with courses in machine shop, mechanical drafting, or engineering vocational training a plus.
  • Machinist degree from an accredited technical program preferred or equivalent experience is required.
  • High level of understanding of metal cutting and tool requirements.
  • Requires a minimum of ten years experience in general machining, CNC programming or CNC machine operation.
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex blueprints.
  • Possess a good understanding of current tooling and technology as related to job responsibilities is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings and 3-D models.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize MasterCam, BrovoNCG, CAD, G & M-codes.
  • A working knowledge of the basic operation of lathes, drill presses, CNC machines, grinders, assembly presses, balancers, mills, and basic assembly processes is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex CNC Programming is essential.
  • Must have ability to operate a computer system with Windows, including Microsoft Outlook, MS Excel and Word software applications is preferred.
  • Experience with Paradox or like systems is preferred.
  • Trained in Calypso software for Zeiss CMM.

May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust and fumes.  Some outside assignments could involve exposure to adverse weather conditions.  Adequate hearing protection is required for 85 decibels and above.
