BorgWarner is currently looking for Senior Motor Control Engineer based at our PowerDriveSystem (PDS) offices in Gateshead.

 

The successful candidate will be working with a team of motor control engineers designing and developing next generation motor controls for use in BorgWarner stand-alone inverters and motor drive systems with applications ranging from passenger cars to heavy trucks. The role encompasses motor control from a blank sheet of paper through to on vehicle validation, although as part of the innovation team your main focus will be on motor control from TRL 2 to TRL 7.

Job role:

A Senior Motor Control Engineer’s responsibilities include:

  • Research in to new / novel motor control algorithms.
  • Designing motor control algorithms for use in automotive and other vehicle applications.
  • Coding, validating and debugging where changes to software are required.
  • Documentation of coding and validation.
  • Providing support to the development department for all aspects of motor control.
  • Providing support to the applications department for all aspects of motor control.
  • Ensuring that Motor Control development follows the company processes and quality procedures.
  • Working with electrical machine and transmission engineers to optimise motor control and system performance
  • Working with the electrical machines and power electronics product line management to define motor control requirements

Must have experience and skills in ALL of these areas below:

  • Vector control of electrical machines (PMAC and/or IM)
  • Real time embedded control
  • Real time programming in C
  • SIMULINK

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience of developing systems to ISO26262
  • Experience in the automotive industry
  • Engineering processes following the development ‘V’ cycle
  • Experience with electric motor drives at power levels above 50kW
  • Experience with power electronics hardware IGBTs, MOSFETs, gate drivers and the like

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of MSc (or equivalent) in motor control. Motor type would be preferably PMAC or IM, alternatively SRM or SYNCREL.

Preferred qualifications required:

  • PhD in motor control. Motor type would be preferably PMAC or IM, alternatively SRM or SYNCREL.
