BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Technical Product Lead (TPL)  Lead supporting the Power Electronics Product Line at our Noblesville Technical Center (NTC) in Noblesville, IN.

The Power Electronics Technical Product Leader is responsible for all aspects of a technical project including integration, planning, technical oversight & execution for specific product or family within the PE product line to meet and exceed customer requirements. The PE-TPL coordinates cross functional teams and drives development of PE product with responsibilities for timing, budget and validation of the final product and alignment between power electronics, controls, validation, application engineering and system (if applicable) teams. He or she will provide technical leadership and engineering guidance to execute the PE products. TPL will be the main technical interface with customers and will lead a global project team developing concept through production. He/she will also support sales in customer interaction for new business opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leads and manages the global project team to execute a product or family of products within the power electronics product line.
  • Responsible for HW and Controls/SW integration for PE products
  • Main technical interface to customers
  • Support development of  internal product specifications based on customer requirements or market needs.
  • Understands customers’ needs and can find common ground to create a saleable product
  • Develop strategic action plans to support business goals
  • Able to break down system specifications into sub-system requirements
  • Work with the project team to achieve the performance and cost targets as well as communication with customers in a timely manner
  • Able to create budget documents and present compelling cases to management
  • Support manufacturing engineering to develop build processes
  • Work with prototype buyer on procurement of parts. 
  • Help monitoring product reliability and warranty.  If issues occur, participate in root cause analysis and help determine and implement corrective actions.
  • Able to create and direct test programs to ensure system durability and performance acceptance
  • Create product engineering specific timing plans and track and report progress (design, testing, etc.).
  • Follow & support the engineering change process for supported products
  • Monitor competitor and customer development activity globally and coordinate/perform analysis of competitive products.
  • Implement best practices and processes for power electronics integration


 

Education, Skill, & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Master’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with focus on electric drive systems; power electronics and/or motors
  • 10+ Years of experience in automotive power electronics & motors hardware and controls development, integration and execution preferred.
  • 3 years minimum experience in mechanical engineering with an OEM required or 5 years minimum engineering experience in Power Electronics, Thermal Design, Packaging, or Systems Engineering required.
  • Understanding of power electronics and motors characterization and validation requirements and processes
  • Strong understanding of automotive power electronics controller, SW and functional safety requirements & development
  • In-depth understanding of motor controls & diagnostics for automotive applications
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of how engineering interrelates with other functions in the organization
  • Wide engineering background with experience in complex systems with mechatronics, electrical machines, power electronics and software
  • Advanced analytical, technical, and statistical skills (including root cause analysis and/or 8D problem solving, DFMEA)
  • Visionary approach to further develop our people, organization and product strategy
  • Global Experience: works well with multiple regions and multiple cultures
  • Understanding of electrified vehicle system and integration
  • Understanding of electric drivetrain secondary phenomena; NVH characteristics and causes.
  • Travel 10% required
