BorgWarner is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Application Engineer located at our Shin-Yokohama office, JP. Reporting to the Senior Manager Sales & Engineering, the Product Application Engineer works on products which reduce emissions and improve fuel economy for BorgWarner Emissions Systems. As part of BorgWarner Emissions Systems, you will work with OEM customers and cross-functional global team to ensure design, testing and development of Emissions Products, preserving product integrity and functionality with respect to design intent and protecting the customer.

POSITION SUMMARY

BorgWarner is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Application Engineer located at our Shin-Yokohama office, JP.  Reporting to the Senior Manager Sales & Engineering, the Product Application Engineer works on products which reduce emissions and improve fuel economy for BorgWarner Emissions Systems.  As part of BorgWarner Emissions Systems, you will work with OEM customers and cross-functional global team to ensure design, testing and development of Emissions Products, preserving product integrity and functionality with respect to design intent and protecting the customer.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Direct customer interface in Japan
  • Definition and documentation of required product features based on customer and system requirements.
  • Negotiate technical requirements and specifications with OEM customers.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work from initiation of design through production as well as follow up and support
  • Lead responsible for technical project management to ensure programs are flawlessly launched including maintain customer action lists and manage commitments ensuring customer needs are met.
  • Work with design department to create product design per vehicle packaging requirements.
  • Coordinate technical reviews and submission of deliverables such as 3D data, customer approval drawings and component drawings in line with key program dates.
  • Responsible for all activities related to development and delivery of prototype products for customers, plant, and internal uses. This may include: testing, analysis of test results, fault analysis, and problem solving.
  • Support global cross functional team by applying knowledge of product development cycle and APQP disciplines to meet all product deadlines.
  • Proactively seeking out new customer opportunities with existing products or new products for continued business growth.
  • Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Greater than 3 years related automotive technical experience – Engine area preferred (especially engine cooling systems, exhaust gas recirculation systems and coolant control valves)
  • Development and launch experience of integrated electronic and mechanical devices
  • Experience DFMEA & PFMEA tools
  • Problem solving skills using systematic approaches (8D, Six-Sigma, Shainin, etc…)
  • Experience in simulation (FEA and CFD) analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience of product design or application engineering with customer interaction
  • To have a drive for results, enthusiasm and to be eager to learn

    KEY JOB SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Fluid and/or thermal dynamics experience
  • Experience with electronic actuators, sensors, DC motors
  • Strong understanding of product design concepts and processes
  • General understanding of drafting principle standards, including GD&T
  • Strong failure analysis and failure prevention skills
  • Strong risk analysis and mitigation skills
  • Fluent in Japanese and English TOEIC level above 650
  • Ability to travel oversea
