BorgWarner’s PowerDrive Systems business unit is currently looking for dynamic, results driven individual to join as Senior Validation Engineer, at our Auburn Hills, MI Powertrain Technical Center.


The Senior Validation Engineer is responsible for validating products and designs by conducting tests on transfer case components & assemblies and resolving design concerns.  This person has lead responsibility to ensure the product meets performance requirements. This person takes ownership and actively takes leadership on system problems. The job includes but is not limited to developing test plans for 4WD, AWD, and Electric Drive assemblies and components, designing test fixtures, supporting Product Engineers and conducting product launches from concept to production. Additionally, a Senior Validation Engineer will conceive and write new Test Procedures as well as conceive and lead design of new Test Equipment and methods. This person needs the strong technical background required to do engineering calculations and solve design problems. He/she demonstrates characteristics that foster team progress, takes the initiative to assume challenging assignments and the ability to create opportunity where none exists.


  • Finds and verifies design solutions to product and test equipment problems
  • Conceives and creates new test equipment, procedures and methods to test new products or conditions
  • Coordinates the development of new customer products
  • Designs test fixtures in conjunction with CAD department
  • Performs vehicle evaluations (subjective and objective)
  • Assembles and disassembles transfer cases
  • Performs inspections on all components for wear and durability
  • Works with Technician to conduct testing on transfer case components
  • Writes test equipment programs
  • Writes test reports relating to the outcome of tests performed
  • Special Assignments - Responsible for support and completion of special assignments as required


  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering required, M.S. Engineering a plus 
  • Mechanical Aptitude/Technical background
  • Minimum 2 years Test/Validation experience, including applicable Co-op or Internship experience – extra consideration and appropriate compensation package for more extensively experienced candidates, up to 20 years  
  • Self-directed/self-motivated
  • Good follow thru skills with the ability to coordinate projects from start to completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Test automation skills and inventive test equipment design/creation skills highly valued  


Preferred Software/ Hardware and General Training

  • MS Office (Excel-VBA/Word/PowerPoint /Project)
  • TeamCenter
  • MatLab
  • LabVIEW experience a plus
  • CANalyzer and general CAN integration with LabVIEW and other test controls
  • Root Cause Analysis and 8D Problem Solving
  • Fundamentals of 4x4/AWD Systems and/or Fundamentals of Electrified Drives
  • Introduction to Basic GD&T and stacks
