BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Power Electronics Engineering Site Leader for our Waterloo Technical Center (WTC) in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Reporting to the Power Electronics Competency Leader, the Power Electronics Engineering Site Leader will be responsible for providing leadership and management oversight to a local team of power electronics development lab engineers/supervisors and technicians. Will be responsible for an engineering budget with site facilities and CapEx. Will assist in the multi-competency engineering execution of projects/programs and will support the local leaders from the other Power Electronics competency areas. Will drive local project teams, be responsible for project execution and mentor power electronics engineers. Heavily involved in recruitment process for local hiring.

As a member of the leadership team at BorgWarner, the Power Electronics Site Leader will drive and own the site culture while helping to steer the organization forward in areas of processes, methodologies, tools and architectures. Will help bring innovative products to market, while preserving customer delivery efficiency and precision. Will participate and contribute in key global engineering initiatives and projects.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

WTC Site Leader

  • Provide leadership to a team of Power Electronics Engineers, Embedded Software Engineers and Technicians with varying levels of experience and area of expertise
  • Plan and manage local budget and forecast
  • Serve as point of contact for identifying the needed site capital and expense to add necessary lab equipment, capabilities, and any needed facility changes to accommodate.
  • Advance the group’s individual and collective capability.  Coach, mentor and train staff to align with structured development objectives
  • Provide program management / technical leadership and guidance in support of customer programs and internal projects
  • Lead and/or Contribute to organizational continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support internal departments and represent the group within the global engineering organization.
  • Foster and promote an environment built on teamwork and collaboration
  • Develop and Foster strong and healthy customer relations
  • Partner with HR in on site culture and talent acquisition of strong talent and foster the development of talent within the team. Create development/career plans with employees while helping them achieve their targeted career goals, and to ensure their maximum contribution to the achievement of the organizational technology strategy and business goals
  • Communicate and enforce safe work procedures
  • Identification and closure of safety issues (suggestions, inspection and investigation findings, hazards and controls, GSSF actions) and their corrective actions

Technical Product Leader

  • Lead reviews of the system requirements, architecture and integration
  • Responsible for HW and Controls/SW integration
  • Balance system level tradeoffs between power electronics, controls, motor, and mechanical components
  • Create product engineering specific timing plans and track and report progress (design, testing, etc.)
  • Independently drive internal propulsion system projects as an internal customer to achieve timelines for internal platform projects and demo cars
  • Work with the project team to achieve the performance and cost targets as well as communication with customers in a timely manner

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required (Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree). Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred
  • 10+ years related experience with prior management experience required
  • 10+ years developing embedded controls/systems (automotive preferred)
  • Proven strategic leader with ability to lead and develop teams with the ability to inspire and motivate others, develop direct reports’ skills and encourage growth.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical presentation, conceptual and analytical skills, with the capability to make decisions and influence others of the validity of those decisions.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, solve complex problems and navigate effectively across a large, collaborative and matrix organization.
  • Proven track record leading teams developing power electronics from concept through production.
  • Strong project planning experience, leading teams to deliver on set milestones to develop complex technical products
  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication (verbal and written) skills required
  • Proficient in English language required
  • Willingness/ability to travel 10% both domestically and internationally required
