Position Description

To perform the manufacturing / quality engineering (MQE) function for production lines, cost reduction, and continuous improvement thru analytical approach. Develop and implements assembly line improvements & process controls, while following required safety and quality standards. Recommends and implements improvements to processes, methods and controls and product design. Ensure safe working practices are designed into all processes. Interacts with all levels of the organization as a team to produce and be accountable for desired results.

Primary Responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, & document assembly line improvements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Lead all changes building in long term safe working practices.
  • Coordinate investigation and corrective action for customer and internal issues
  • Utilize the 8D corrective and preventative action system
  • Support customer calls to assist Quality concerns.
  • Ability to generate and maintain PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), control plan, process flow, and other APQP process documentation.
  • Design and coordinate the build of production equipment, fixtures and tooling as required.
  • Work with equipment vendors to develop & implement equipment improvements
  • Specify and execute machine purchases including verification of machine quality, performance and effect on process.
  • Ensure rigorous qualification of the manufacturing processes through robust process validation         and verifications
  • Facilitate or lead Continuous Improvement Events (Kaizen).
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods by analyzing and planning work force           utilization, space requirements and workflow.
  • Work as part of cross functional group for new program launches.
  • Work within design procedures of ISO and Quality Systems
  • Maintain project status reports for scheduling
  • Assure adherence to standard industry manufacturing best practices
  • Interact effectively with all levels of the organization, frequently participating on or leading cross functional teams.
  • Understand and adheres to current quality and control policies. 
  • Understand and adheres to current health, safety, and environmental policies. 
  • Communicate and enforce safe work procedures.     
  • Identify and close safety issues (suggestions, inspection and investigation findings) and their corrective actions.   
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires a BS degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive industry (Tier1, Supplier, OE) is preferred
  • Vision system programming experience is a plus
  • DC electric torque systems experience is a plus
  • Understanding of lean principles with demonstrated application is required
  • Understanding of the APQP process with demonstrated application is required
  • Working knowledge of SAP system is a plus.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC programming is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing large capital equipment projects within deadlines is required
  • Demonstrated experience with new project costing, involvement in financial analysis is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required Education

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.

Preferred Elements

  • Statistical Methods (Six Sigma Green Belt preferred)
  • Problem Solving Methodologies (5-Why, 8D, etc.)
  • Automotive Quality Systems
  • TS 16949 (transition to IATF with industry)
  • Working knowledge of SAP system.
