The Drivetrain Group harnesses a legacy of more than 100 years as an industry innovator in transmission and all-wheel drive technology. The group leverages this understanding of powertrain clutching technology to develop interactive control systems and strategies for all types of torque management.

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Commodity Buyer at our SLP Plant in Mexico.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Purchasing Manager, the Commodity Buyer will be primarily responsible for looking for savings opportunities through the development of local suppliers or alternate suppliers in coordination with the Purchasing Manager and the global purchasing group.


• Commercially align strategic suppliers that help create value for the company through competitiveness and long-term commitment.
• Maintain updated prices in the Purchasing database and in the ERP system.
• Improve raw material prices, under a program of development of local suppliers or substitution of suppliers in coordination with the Purchasing Manager and the global purchasing group.
• Manage commodities according to the global market and opportunities to improve prices with periodic adjustments as applicable.
• Ensure that the supplier base complies with the BorgWarner Purchase terms and conditions.
• Creation, review and approval of commercial contracts (NDA / AL / GT & C / VMI / Schedule Agreement / AIF) with suppliers of direct materials.
• Create or align the strategy of reduction of prices in raw material, negotiation, new / double supply, increase in volume, VA / VE, improvement in processes, etc.
• Comparative analysis of supplier quotes and business allocation proposal.
• Analysis of investment projects with suppliers.
• Costing and estimation of bills of materials.
• Location and development of suppliers in the country or region where the total cost (landed cost) is more competitive.
• Actively participate in the cross-functional project team.
• Lead to the implementation of cost reduction projects, ensuring that each function carries out the activities defined for the start of production on time.
• Control and management of prices (fluctuation of the raw material market and exchange rate).
• Create the annual Budget of Purchase of Raw Material and ensure compliance in time thereof.
• Evaluate the capacity of suppliers and define actions necessary to meet the demand of BorgWarner.
• Manage the base of productive tooling in loan with suppliers and ensure its replacement or repair on time.
• Follow the evaluation of suppliers defined as "at risk" and define actions to mitigate such risk in time.


• Electrical Mechanical Engineer, Electronic Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Administration, Economics or related career.
• Minimum 4 years in a similar position.
• Management of quality management systems.

This position will adhere to Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner SLP Safety Policy Manual, which includes the use of equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the employer requires.  This individual will work in manners that stress the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses.  He/she must take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and co-workers.  In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to the immediate supervisor.
