Key Roles & Responsibilities

Standard Duties :  

Designs and drafts systems of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls for machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers. Routine engineering work requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.  This involves carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.  The position demands work experience acquired in an entry level position or an appropriate graduate level study.  For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher-level position.

  • Designs and drafts arrangement of linkage of conductors, relays, and other components of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication devices.
  • Diagrams logic system for functions such as sequence and timing control.
  • Designs and drafts diagrams of cable connection for robots, robot end-of-arm tool, robot controller, and other machines.
  • Illustrates and describes installation and maintenance details such as where bearings should be lubricated, types of lubrication, and which parts are lubricated automatically and manually.
  • Confers with equipment manufacturers to resolve problems regarding building of controls systems.
  • Reviews schematics with customer's representatives to answer questions during installation of robot systems.
  • Observes gauges during trial run of programmed machine and equipment operation to verify that electrical signals in system conform to specifications.
  • Designs controls for energy conversion or other industrial plant monitoring systems.
  • Troubleshoots electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Leads others in the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.
  • Install, troubleshoot and repair controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses.
  • Performs tasks to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements


  • Proficient understanding of complex design drawings, layouts, stack-ups, and verbal design instructions, and understanding and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Understanding of Databases such as SQL, IClient, a plus
  • Working knowledge of APQP, TS 16949 and ISO 14001 standards
  • Superb computer literacy, including Windows/Microsoft based software applications
  • AutoCad skills
  • Results-oriented, with strong organizational and project management skills

Additional Information:

  • Travel is occasionally required, up to 5% of the time.

Safety and Physical Requirements:

  • All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding and complying with the safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear PPE when appropriate in designated campus areas.
  • Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. on occasion.

Education & Experience

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education and experience combined
  • 5-8 years of experience in Controls Engineering or related field  
  • In-depth automation programming experience in Studio 5000 or Step 7
  • Manufacturing SQL/SCADA software experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of PLC code writing and troubleshooting
  • Extensive experience programming robots
  • Experience with networking of equipment communication systems 
  • Must have Siemens PLC and/or AB PLC experience
  • CNC experience/knowledge preferred
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of PLC code writing and troubleshooting
  • Extensive experience programming robots
