Supplier Quality Management Manager

The primary function of the Supplier Quality Management Manager is to lead a SQM team to identify and assess potential suppliers, conduct supplier technical reviews to support best sourcing, champion supplier APQPs, determine disposition of supplier PPAP submissions to ensure flawless launch, and manage supplier quality performance and improvement to ensure safe production in program life cycle.
The position will also need to manage commodities / suppliers directly.


Lead team to:

Supplier Selection and Launch

  • Identify and evaluate New Suppliers, conduct on-site supplier assessments and technical reviews, Ensure potential suppliers understand BorgWarner product requirements.
  • Visit new/resourced Suppliers to ensure APQP progress/process integrity
  • Proactively work with Suppliers to minimize and/or eliminate Launch issues
  • Ensure clear understanding of BW Requirements and Report Supplier APQP progress.
  • Supplier PPAP Submissions
  • Coordinate Change Management Process with Suppliers
  • Review and make disposition on Supplier PPAP submissions
    • Assure PPAP timing remains on time and meets Launch timing objectives
  • Update/communicate PPAP timing to Launch Team members
    • Responsible for ensuring all PPAP requirements are met and documentation is up to date and on file for components within assigned commodities

Supplier Quality & Training

  • Manage and improve supplier quality performance
  • Lead supplier quality problem solving and quality improvement actions to reduce CPM / PPM issues
  • Ensure that the supplier’s manufacturing processes will produce a quality product that meets BorgWarner requirements
  • Conduct Supplier Audits of Implemented Corrective Actions Plans, S.C.’s and SPC Charts, Conduct Supplier Audits/Assessments at Supplier's facility
  • Conduct Supplier Quality Training at Suppliers facilities to meet BorgWarner's and/or Customer's specific Quality expectations/requirements
  • Host Supplier Quality Training Sessions at Borg Warner's manufacturing facilities
  • Identify gaps, and train/develop SQMs in areas needed for skill set improvement



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent applicable experience in Specific Engineering expertise.


  • Experience managing a team with direct reports
  • 3 years of Supplier Quality Engineering experience in the automotive industry
  • Knowledge in manufacturing problem solving (8-D Methodology) and manufacturing processes required
  • Knowledge of TS16949 requirements including AIAG APQP, PFMEA, MSA and PPAP required
  • Knowledge of SPC required
  • Fluent in English


  • Ability to communicate to subordinates, and give constructive feedback
  • Effective at defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and/or concrete variables.  Proficient at developing trip reports, general business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Effective summary and presentation ability to respond to questions from Management and Customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
