POSITION SUMMARY

This position is located at BorgWarner’s World Headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI.

The Director, Data Analytics is responsible for leading Data Analytics for BorgWarner, developing and executing the BorgWarner data analytics strategy, and managing an evolving Corporate Data Analytics Center of Excellence (CoE).  The individual will provide leadership, vision, direction, technical competence, and structure to the Corporate CoE and Business Data Analytics Teams.  Responsible for delivering world-class data analytics solutions which create value to BorgWarner.  This is a highly visible and critical position for BorgWarner and will report to the Chief Information Officer. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Business Improvement/ Growth Champion

• Lead companywide analytics and be responsible for delivering value from Data and the related reporting and analytics in support of BorgWarner Businesses and Corporate groups. 
• Partner with global leaders throughout the Business Units, Operating Functions and Global Boards on strategy around delivering timely and targeted information and insights to enable BorgWarner to utilize data to create business value.
• Lead the structure and growth of the Analytics CoE team, including Data Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Architects, Data Scientists and other roles.  Initially this role will be responsible for 10 full time employees and provide guidance to BorgWarner Business Analytics teams (10+). 

• Provide leadership in identifying and developing high-value business opportunities where data can be used to help BorgWarner’s BU’s gain insights in a timely and cost-efficient manner resulting in Business growth, efficiency, and effectiveness.
• Implement agile work methods to drive successful iterative, incremental, and rapid project execution.  Deliver Proofs of Value (POV’s) to show the value that can be achieved in support of a broader program execution.  Be willing to change investments and strategies based on the results found throughout program execution.

• Design with, build upon, and deploy advanced technologies to provide higher amounts of data lineage, transparency, correlation and causation.  Identify where AI and Machine Learning algorithms could strengthen BorgWarner’s go to market capabilities, improve operating effectiveness, and provide long term competitive advantage
• Continually stay on top of, evaluate, and assess the leading data technology platforms and processes to determine how to create the most flexible and lowest overhead data and analytics environments and program execution. 
• Develop a strong foundation of analytics, and evolve to more predictive and prescriptive recommendation models, around our products, pricing, customers and operations that will drive organic growth.
• Optimize and manage analytics software, license usage, and service provider support to optimize spend, license usage, and value achieved for per dollar spent.
• Manage data analytics budget including hardware and software requirements, headcount, maintenance and support.
• Manage project appropriation requests, timelines, expenditures and resource plans for recommended projects. 
• Act in a data analytics advisory (COE) role to all Business level analytics teams.  Ensure SOX and GDPR compliance of analytics applications.
• Provide quarterly updates to the Data Analytics Steering Committee. 

Data Strategy & Stewardship

• Champion the use of data as a strategic business asset. Be an influencer and an educator to the business, an enthusiast and innovator within the team, and a leader and continual learner within the IT organization.
• Establish strategic big data and advanced analytics priorities for the company using iterative and incremental approaches. 
• Evolve the strategy and thought leadership around enterprise data architectures including big data, industry wide enterprise data models, and architectures.
• Develop and administer company policies related to Data Analytics data governance, data monitoring, data processes, data lifecycle, and data sourcing.  
• Partner with other IT leaders in the organization to build technology and architectural alignment across systems.
• Work with IT leaders and Corporate Purchasing in the negotiation and management of any strategic data analytics supplier software.
• Work collaboratively with IT organizations and the Businesses in all aspects of the various projects.

Business Results and Key Performance Indicators

• Work together with the Business to identify the business results to be measured and delivered against.  Communicate and evaluate the team’s success against these measurements.
• Develop efficient KPI’s, management controls and communication to ensure tracking and visibility of success. 

Data Analytics Talent Development

• Identify, recruit, and develop data leaders within the Analytics COE and the Business groups.  Determine what type of operating structure would be optimal for BorgWarner and work with CIO and Business to establish.
• Lead by example, engaging hands-on in complex data engineering challenges and Information Management projects to derive deep insights from data.
• Upgrade data analytics capabilities of BorgWarner through the creation and deployment in training programs and leadership on data-driven business development projects.
• Develop Business data analytics personnel on a dotted line basis.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Leadership experience managing data and analytics engagements within large complex organizations.  Excels in ability to work with Business and Technology teams to derive insights, visualize and tell stories with data.
• Strong business acumen, strategic mindset, and technology depth/skills to build credibility with Business Leaders and Technology teams. 
• Have a passion for data and technology that drives innovation and creativity.  Be a demonstrated continual learner that will positively challenge others throughout the organization to achieve more than previously able. 
• Have a track record of delivery and execution success.  Demonstrate learnings that have been gained throughout engagements and how they can apply to BorgWarner.
• Demonstrate excellent information management skills (architecture, design, development and support)
• Track record of delivering highly-scalable and reliable solutions through multiple iterative cycles.
• Experience in data management, optimization and reporting to help businesses achieve efficiencies, increase productivity, reduce costs, and streamline their internal communications.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills and communicates effectively across organizations and with senior executives. Ability to synthesize complex issues/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts, statuses and “storytelling”.
• Ability to work with leaders at multiple levels in the organization.
• Skills and tenacity to achieve results without formal authority.  Ability to work in ambiguous situations and have influence across organizational boundaries.
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems, or related field. Masters / MBA is a preferred.
