BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Electrification Lead Systems Engineer at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Kokomo, Indiana.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Systems Engineering Manager, Electrification, the Electrification Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for Reviewing, Planning, Coordinating, executing requirements initiatives with the customer, and assigned project team on new and innovative power electronics products.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the system design for automotive power electronics projects including high voltage inverters, dc/dc converters, and/or on-board chargers as well as their sub-systems
  • Participate in planning, definition, and high-level systems design of the Product/Platform, including reuse and design alternative evaluations
  • Provide primary customer interface and technical negotiations regarding product definition, requirements allocation, and product development, including expected behavior of the system
  • Lead technical negotiations for customer change requests, including cost and timing impacts of the change
  • Define compliance to satisfy critical non-functional requirements
  • No direct people line responsibility
  • Provide technical leadership to a multi-disciplined design team
  • Define, develop and document internal systems requirements (subsystems and their interfaces), allocate responsibilities to product development team and communicate requirements
  • Provide oversight and foster Built-In Quality
  • Oversee ASPICE compliance, including process definition and execution, requirements allocation, implementation tracking and bi-directional traceability between requirements & verification results
  • Oversee troubleshooting of product failures
  • Define and support product evaluation and validation activities, including leading and overseeing check out and debug of new hardware & software in a lab bench environment using bench instrumentation and tools.
  • Communicate project technical status internally and externally
  • Work with customer to establish and capture requirements in documents or Simulink Models
  • Work with design team to create Product Definition Documents to capture product requirements implementation and verification methods
  • AGILE: Participate in Program Increment (PI) Planning, System Demos, and Retrospective events


  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering field, preferably electrical engineering
  • Desire to be part of deeply skilled team and to engineer automotive power electronics for the next generation of electrified vehicles, while working with some of the world’s top automakers
  • 5+ years engineering experience; preference will be given to those with 8+ years
  • 3+ years of experience with Polarion or other equivalent tools
  • Familiarity with general lab equipment, Scopes, Meters, Debuggers
  • Knowledge of safety analysis for automotive systems, ISO 26262 Functional Safety, DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA and FTA analysis
  • Knowledge of ASPICE, JIRA, AGILE
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Some travel (less than 10%) and a flexible work schedule on occasion


  • Experience with developing architecture(s) for automotive power electronics applications
  • Familiarity with electric/hybrid vehicles
  • Familiarity with electric drives and electric machine controls
  • Familiarity with inverter, dc/dc converter and/or on-board charger topologies
  • Familiarity with development of automotive embedded systems, system simulation and modeling tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink),
  • Familiarity with development of on-board diagnostics,
  • Familiarity with design approaches to meet functional safety requirements,
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving techniques, automotive data buses (e.g. CAN)
  • Familiarity of automotive microprocessors is preferred
