BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Functional Safety L2 Systems Engineer at our Customer Technology Center Michigan (CTCM) in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Systems EGM/PE Platform Manager, the Functional Safety L2 Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing system solutions, and supporting software solutions, for various power electronics products including high voltage inverters.

Job Duties:

  • Decomposition of customer stakeholder requirements and safety goals/concepts into system requirements, software requirements, and safety mechanisms
  • Create, and execute, system integration and qualification verification/validation plans related to functional safety system/software components
  • Development of system architectures and designs/models for assigned functional safety monitors.
  • Support software engineers in creating software solutions that meet the functional safety system requirements and designs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on functional safety topics and aid in fostering a work environment that keeps safety in mind.
  • Work with Functional Safety Manager(s) to ensure ISO26262 compliance on all work products


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field
  • 2+ years' experience with vehicle embedded systems and functions preferably on high voltage power electronics products
  • 2+ years’ Experience with Matlab / Simulink
  • Ability to read and understand source code (i.e. C/C++)
  • Understanding of AUTOSAR Architecture(s)
  • Deep knowledge of automotive systems and software development processes using the V-Model for both design and verification/validation activities
  • Understanding of ISO 26262 and experience developing major work products for a functional safety program
  • Interest in learning and developing safety monitors for assigned product control systems
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% as required to support customer and internal needs

Preferred Experience:

  • Master of Science Degree Power Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering / Automotive Engineering or similar field
  • Knowledge of AGILE development methodologies
  • Experience with Activity Management Software (i.e. Jira) and Requirements Management Software (i.e. Polarion)
  • Experience with embedded platforms, microcontrollers, A/D converters and digital logic
