We are currently seeking a corporate counsel to join our European Legal Department.  This position will be based in Mannheim, Germany, and will report to the European General Counsel.  In this role, the corporate counsel will serve as a business partner and legal counselor to five separate and diverse Business Units with nearly $6 billion in annual revenue from operations spread over 14 different countries.

The successful candidate will have broad legal experience and business savvy (i.e., someone who can provide legal advice and analysis in the context of real world challenges and enable the business to identify prompt and practical solutions to the issues presented). 


  • Negotiate, draft and review complex contracts, including customer and supplier commercial agreements, standard terms and conditions and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Provide legal analysis and advice on diverse operational legal and policy issues, including corporate governance, legal and regulatory compliance, warranty and related insurance issues .
  • Cultivate and maintain channels of communication with key legal and business affairs personnel.  Support the execution of the Company’s key global and regional strategic objectives. 
  • Anticipate legal and regulatory risks facing the business and identify appropriate solutions to proactively mitigate those risks. 
  • Assist in implementation of the Company’s compliance and training programs.
  • Manage external counsel.
  • Travel as necessary (regionally) to support and interface with European clients and external counsels. 
  • Other duties as assigned and in accordance with prior experience.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Two or more years of post-qualification experience in a corporate law department and/or in a leading private law firm handling complex commercial issues.
  • Completion of a legal degree from a top-tier law school.
  • License to practice law in a jurisdiction within the European Union and strong knowledge of European legislation and policy. 
  • Fluency and ability to conduct business in the English and German languages. 
  • Prior automotive or industrial experience a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated application of business judgment and a global perspective in solving complex legal problems with prompt and concise guidance and a range of alternative solutions.
  • Readiness to work in a multinational organization  coupled with a desire to learn and a curiosity for uncovering innovative solutions to issues.
  • Excellent organizational and client-service skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize efforts to simultaneously meet multiple project deadlines and expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities.
  • Highest level of ethics, values and personal integrity.
