BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems (PDS) is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Senior
Engineer Power Electronics and Software Engineering at our Propulsion Technical Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
As a Senior Engineer in the Advanced Systems Engineering team the individual will be working on design and development
of state-of-the-art power electronics hardware and control software systems for current and future power conversion
systems. The role will provide opportunity to identify product engineering key-indicators, benchmark technologies in
electric mobility and develop engineering solutions to enhance the existing product features and demonstrate future
product features. Additionally, the individual will get an opportunity to collaborate with competence centers for electric
machines, power electronics, software and driveline in developing future product vision and product demonstration ideas.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Passion for engineering with strong fundamentals in electrical and mechatronics engineering
  • Passion for electric mobility and automotive engineering
  • Self-driven attitude with curiosity towards engineering next generation propulsion systems
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics layout for SI-IGBT, GaN, SiC-MOSFET power conversion systems
    • Familiarity with Invertor, DCDC converters, On-Board chargers architectures for automotive applications
    • Knowledge of designing and architecting the gate drivers for Si-IGBT, GaN and SiC-MOSFET inverters
    • Knowledge of designing and sizing capacitor bank and signal filters
    • Design knowledge of system packaging, six sigma tools, 3D CAD, PSPCIE, Allegro tool usage
    • Should be able to develop simulation models to assess the design for electrical energy conversion efficiency, EMI/EMC compatibility, DC ripple and more.
    • Excellent knowledge of HV electrical architecture implementation and design first principles
  • Strong knowledge in controls software and system operations of power conversion systems (Inverters, DCDC, OBC etc.)
    • Strong understanding of electric machine control principles and software implementation methods
    • Knowledge of DCDC conversion principle and application specific knowledge
    • Good knowhow of OBC operational principle and application to different SAE and CCS protocols and charging rates
    • Excellent know how of the electric vehicle supervisory controls, system integration techniques
    • Good understanding of functional safety in controls software of high power and high voltage automotive
    • power conversion systems
  • Should be able to work with automotive communication network (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet)
  •  Must be able to develop innovative solutions and application-specific design
  • Good written and oral skills to articulate complex engineering problems
  • Must able to work in a team environment in a cross functional discipline

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field Required
    • Candidates with Master’s or PhD degree preferred
  • Experience in automotive industry preferred
  • Understanding of following tools used in automotive applications
    • Vector CANape, CANalyzer, PSPICE, Allegro, LTSPICE, AMEsim
    • ETAS INCA , ATI Vision
    • Matlab/Simulink, C/C++
    • dSPACE, Motohawk, Pi-Innovo
