POSITION SUMMARY

A Core Engineer is a technical authority within the Driveline Engineering organization with deep knowledge and expertise in a specific component or function. A Core Engineer uses this expertise to establish and maintain a knowledge database for their technical field consisting of design guidelines, engineering tools, and technical sign-off checklists. A Core Engineer also supports the Business Growth team with innovations, platform designs, and technical roadmaps for their responsible areas and provides design solutions for new business opportunities. The position described below is for a Mechanical Engagement System Core Engineer and includes responsibility for dynamically engaging driveline systems such as Park Lock Systems, Disconnect Systems, and/or Actuation Systems and each component within these systems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Deep technical knowledge of dynamically engaging mechanical systems, their functions, failure modes, safety and performance requirements and the necessary analyses and validation tests for confidence and reliability
  • Deep technical knowledge of various system architectures and actuation methods to properly define the design solution to fit each application and vehicle package constraint.
  • Good working knowledge of electronically controlled actuators, including functions, failure modes, analytical tools, and validation requirements
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for mechanical system quality and performance issues during both validation and warranty to quickly identify root cause and corrective actions
  • Capable of creating the engineering specifications, processes, methods, and tools for both assembly and component-level analysis of each performance requirement
  • Able to determine key interface and assembly requirements and analyze through engineering methods such as tolerance stack calculations
  • Ability to lead a global Center of Expertise (CoE) team
  • Excellent writing, presenting, and training skills to document and share knowledge to the global engineering organization
  • Ability to create engineering process standards such as: design guideline, design criteria checklist, and analytical tools. Maintain and present these documents as necessary.
  • Support the global Driveline Engineering organization as the top technical authority in your field
  • Support new design concepts for new business opportunities
  • Provide a technical roadmap for advanced technology or cost reduction opportunities
  • Create and maintain generic component and/or sub-system DFMEAs and use them to define Special Characteristics and Prevention and/or Detection control actions
  • Assess the technical capabilities of suppliers

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8 years of related engineering work experience
  • Experience in using a Product Development Process to launch new product designs
  • Experience and/or training in the development and maintenance of DFMEAs
  • Experience and/or training in Root Cause Analysis
  • Self-directed/self-motivated
  • Excellent drive for results with the ability to coordinate projects from start to completion
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using MS Office Tools (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project/Teams)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 15 years of related engineering work experience
  • Experience in electric vehicle powertrain or driveline products
  • Manufacturing and assembly process knowledge
  • Experience and/or training in DFM/DFA
  • Experience using TeamCenter PLM system
