Supplier Quality Engineer

• Support and enable the implementation of robust quality product design and development (APQP), processing (Core Tools and PPAP) and warranty for internal AFM production locales
• Support and enable the effective evaluation of potential and/or existing suppliers to predict and ensure the quality of delivered products and/or processes. Enable supporting corrective action systems to support existing suppliers in the event of quality escapes. Support and continuously manage the reduction of warranty & supplier’s internal defective rate
• Analyze parts with warranty and/or 0km problem with supplier together, drive suppliers to implement 8D activities in time
• Follow up and drive suppliers to implement cost recovery because of warranty and/or 0km problems
• Monitor & train suppliers to build up robust change control management according to Borgwarner’s requirements
• Support & drive suppliers to build and/or refine Quality Management System by regular on-site support such as process audit, product audit, QMS audit, surprise audit, etc.
• As appropriate, align with peers/Council across all regions to develop StdW in approach of the overall QLMS
• Effectively partner with functional team members such as:
o Engineering: Support launch, product/process review, APQP, PPAP, Supplier MCA, process audit, product audit, change control management, etc.
o Supply Chain: Support sourcing evaluation, production capacity analysis, on-time delivery, component cost reduction, E&O parts disposal, etc.
• Effectiveness results include systematic control and continued improvement of typically the following KPIs:
o PPM defects (internal, external and supplier)
o Supplier Performance Ratings (Scorecards, PPAP, PRR, etc)
o Customer Complaints (Quantity, Repeats, and Time to Close).
o Compliance to customer required quality management systems such as IATF, ISO, VDA, etc.
o Attainment of 100% internal Ppk results as/where appropriate
o Successful New To Range (NTR) launches and/or product/process changes (internal or supply chain)
o Delivery Arrears (On-Time Delivery)
o Personnel and personal training depth
o Customer performance ratings/feedback
• Efficiency results include systematic control and continued improvement of typically the following KPIs:
o Warranty Expense compared to Cost of Goods Sold (COGS). Leverage Paynter charts for predictive analysis
o Warranty cost avoidance when AFM is not at fault
o Achieving targeted value added savings through focused process/product improvements
o Meeting the quality system budget
o Days On-hand Inventory
o Lead Time by product family

  • Min 5-7 years of working experience in the Automotive industry, supplier management experience preferred
  • Equivalent Engineering/technical degree is preferred
  • High travelling frequency needed (60%-100%)
  • Deep understanding & experienced auditor of compliance standards: ISO9001, IATF 16949, VDA, etc., experienced in QMS set up & continuous improvement on supplier side
  • Strong background in applying 5 core tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA
  • Strong problem solving skills, rich experience of quality tools such as 8D approach, 7QA tools: Fishbone, Check sheet, pareto charts, 5Why, Histogram, Scatter, Control Charts
  • Deep understanding & skilled hands-on experience of 6-sigma tools such as Cpk, Ppk, MSA, F/T-test, ANOVA, DOE, reliability, etc. Skilled user of Minitab
  • Familiar with capacity analysis, TAKT time, Cycle time, LOB, on-time delivery, etc.
  • Ability to attain above skills as/where needed and stay current in the QLMS sciences
  • Ability to teach/train others (such as peers, customers and suppliers) in the various QLMS skills as needed
  • Ability to prioritize to safety, customer and business needs
  • Be highly self-motivated, flexible, well organized and work well under pressure, proactive working attitude
  • Robust leadership skills required; including the management of people with different cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize workloads in each of the different areas of responsibility
  • Empowered decision maker/relationship-builder with high integrity
  • Excellent skills for Office and Presentation
  • Regardless of country, learning and/or mastery in English
