The role of Level 3 Engineering Apprentice offes the opportunity to learn new skills and gain nationally recognised engineering qualification through a four year apprenticeship.

It is essential to have a keen interest in solving practical problems and to enjoy the challenge of learning new skills.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include, but are not limited to:-

  • Level 3 Engineering Apprentices will spend the first year of their apprenticeship full time at our training provider’s Technical School where they will have four days a week completing practical skills within the workshop and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate.
  • Years 2 - 4  the Apprentice moves to day release (one day at the Technical School, four days at BorgWarner Gillingham.  On the days on site they will commence a rotation within the business, spending time and gaining experience in a number of Manufacturing and Technical Centre departments.
  • Working alongside your mentor, responding to machine breakdowns on a day to day basis with a view to minimising downtime and improving reliability of the machines.
  • Document activities completed on the company’s job booking system.
  • Work alongside mentor in planning and implementing preventative maintenance activities.
  • Communicate and liaise with other departments and all levels of management.
  • Attend meetings with mentor representing your department.
  • Work with mentor to a training matrix set out to cover Apprenticeship criteria and more.
  • Support continuous improvement and investigate ways to engineer out persistent problems.
  • Work in a safe manner ensuring the safety of yourself and others at all times.
  • Work with mentor to identify spare parts required to be purchased for machines.
  • Working alongside your mentor carrying out milling, turning and grinding procedures.
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Mandatory

  • Must have a practical aptitude and able to demonstrate ability to work with hand tools and measurement equipment.
  • Should enjoy working out how things work and repairing things that are broken
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Have the ability to work in a team whilst managing own responsibilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic and focussed environment
  • Strong work ethic
  • Personable, flexible and a proactive team player
  • Self-motivated and have a strong and flexible attitude towards work
  • To comply with H&S regulations, showing responsibility of personal safety and that of others

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE

Mandatory

  • 3 GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at a minimum Grade 6 (grade B) or higher, either expected or achieved.

Desireable

  • Higher academic qualifications, ie A levels, BTEC Diploma in Engineering (welcome but not essential)
