Position Summary

The Product Engineer is responsible for leading team efforts of engineering design, development and support of new and existing products.  

Key Accountabilities

  • Protects product integrity by ensuring the product is conforming to design intent through product prints, specifications, processes, and control plan including oversight of production validation setup and results.
  • Assist the development and maintenance of product DFMEAs,  Product Verification Plans, Parts Lists, and other Quality System Documentation.
  • Provides assistance in problem solving by determining root cause and corrective measures for warranty returns. Fosters quick and structured problem solving methodology and documentation.
  • Provides engineering support to Product Line Teams, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality, for continuous improvement activities (e.g. scrap reduction, yield improvement, cost reduction, uptime, cycle time).
  • Eliminate waste and streamline flow and processes using lean methodologies
  • Troubleshoot equipment, assist in layouts for integration of new products into existing plant areas, develop FMEA’s and flow charts
  • Work on issues to eliminate problems by identifying root cause and provide solutions
  • Ensure that all processes are documented
  • Assist in product launch. Teach, educate and drive the Lean Production System
  • Help establish, lead, and sustain a continuous improvement culture
  • Drive visual management into all aspects of the manufacturing environment
  • Be an active change agent

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience;  experience in the automotive industry or in a global manufacturing company preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and project management skills
  • PC skills: Operating Systems (Windows 95/98/NT/XP), MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Database (Access, dBase), etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD preferable)
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming
  • Continuous Improvement and /or Cost Saving project experience
  • Automotive industry standards and process knowledge: SORs, APQP, PPAP, MSA, FMEAs, Flow Charts, Routings, TS 16949, etc.
