Job purpose

The position is part of the Corporate Advanced Engineering (CAE) Vehicle and Systems Team. The Senior Engineer works on vehicle build related functions of advanced demonstrator concepts and developments interacting with project managers to achieve the project goals. A second aspect to the role is to oversee the administration of any legacy vehicles and the operation of the function within the garage environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead vehicle and system development activities for advanced engineering projects
  • Manage design, development, integration, installation and shake-down of propulsion concepts covering electric or hybrid designs and expected to include HV components (battery and battery management, DC-DC convertors, inverters, motors, and parts and brackets needed for installation
  • Planning and execution of vehicle focused testing including test instrumentation, data collection and analysis, measurement procedures and, as needed, liaison with external test service providers
  • Lead BOM and procurement of key components, systems, mounting solutions and other hardware in support of vehicle builds
  • Direct and prioritize daily and weekly tasks for vehicle build and maintenance function with control of the activity plan for technician resources (internal and external) and tracking of external costs and hours
  • Manage the clean and safe operation of the CAE workspaces employing all correct procedures
  • Oversee the CAE vehicle demonstrator fleet, maintain vehicles in good order and manage the budget allocated to fleet maintenance
  • Lead coordination and planning of intern assignments for the local team
  • Occasional domestic travel to support vehicle demonstrations and training requirements; flexible work schedule necessary on occasion

What we’re looking for

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical / Electronic Engineering or strongly related field.
  • Experience of working on vehicle prototype builds with strong focus on propulsion with OEM, Tier 1 or automotive consultant
  • Experience of integration, installation and shake-down of new propulsion architectures into vehicles with coordination to apply controls, software or HMI interfaces from the wider team
  • Experience and skills of CAD and packaging tools to sufficient depth to enable the mechanical parts design and packaging for prototype purposes.
  • Strong evidence of team working, demonstrated use of project management reporting tools and communication, and presentation skills

Preferred:

  • 5 years’ experience in related fields for Senior Engineer role (lower levels of experience considered with commensurate lower grade to suit experience)
  • Experience and training related to Electric Propulsion and High Voltage Vehicle Systems
  • Knowledge and use of instrumentation, data collection and analysis using proprietary data collection and analysis tools (ideally including CAN logging)
