Supplier Quality Engineer

It is the overall purpose of the Supplier Quality Engineer to provide support in supplier quality activity and continuous improvement at supply side.The Supplier Quality Engineer is required to work closely the Bradford Supply Chain department to achieve world class cost, quality and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with suppliers in line with the BorgWarner Supplier Manual.

Resolve series production quality concerns through effective SCAR and 8D including:

Short notice risk containment, management and minimisation at supply side.

Troubleshoot problems on existing processes at suppliers.

Create and resolution of series quality notifications

Provide rapid response to major supplier issues that would halt production

Cost recovery for all scrap, internal and third party sorting activities

Consult with the appropriate buyers on all activities which impact on their commodity and responsibility.

  • Regular communication to the Supply Chain Manager, vendors and customers alike, as and when required on both vendor and improvement initiative performance.

  • Suppliers return documentation for non-conforming products.

  • Communicate submission approval requirements internally.

  • Management of current CN’s for series production through to close.

  • Stock movements to support series supplies quality concerns. Movement of stock out of 6009 to 6000 stock locations.

  • Effective management / processing of PPAP submission. Supplier PPAP sample status reporting for series process changes (post PPAP).

  • Create notification to cover deviations against PPAP with action plans to support removal

  • Update and complete ZEM (SAP).

  • Supplier PPM (SAP and SPS Scorecard) reporting.

  • SPS reporting – raising of complaint purchase material (CPM’s).

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Apprentice Trained (preferred)
  • Trained Auditor (IATF16949 preferred)
  • Experience of working to IATF16949 and ISO9000 standards.
  • Working knowledge of ‘Quality Tools and Techniques’ such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA , 8D Problem Solving, 6 Sigma, etc.
  • Product and process knowledge of Manufacturing to Automotive, Aerospace tolerances.
  • Manufacturing experience (CNC turning, milling and grinding), Foundry, or assembly knowledge (preferred).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (preferred).
  • Ability to read drawings.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook.
