Senior  Application Engineer

Reporting to the Application Engineering Manager.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Application Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to customers from initial enquiry through to SOP, and throughout the life of the product. The Senior Application Engineer will also support the training and development of less experienced engineers, within the Application Engineering department.

Key Responsibilities:*

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal and external customers and suppliers/supply base.
  • Work with the customer to understand future technology needs to help drive VOC into the organization.
  • Confirm technical options to meet customer requirements including design and thermodynamic options.
  • Identify technical requirements of project and the internal and customer activity required to launch product into production including all design, validation and Release and prototype activity.
  • Create gap analysis to critique a customer requirements document to BorgWarner limits and capabilities.
  • Ensure all technical risks are documented and resolved before SOP following the DART process.
  • Work to DART process in line with overall project timing, creation, updating and tracking of indicated documents using the appropriate templates.
  • Support customers with the resolution of any technical issues prior to and post SOP.
  • Identify customer development requirements and feedback to internal project team, including prototype demand and timing of different build levels.
  • Work with other departments to ensure that all technical aspects of the project are completed to best engineering practice and in line with project timing.
  • Work with less experienced Engineers to ensure their project documentation is to the high standards expected and required.
  • Provide technical expertise in root cause analysis of engine test data and turbocharger failure both pre SOP and post SOP.
  • Lead the development of qualification testing to ensure full qualification of turbocharger.
  • Manage current production changes with the customer to support internal cost saving activities. Manage bundling of changes to reduce effort at the customer.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelors (Hons) Degree (or above) in Mechanical Engineering, or similar Engineering Degree.
  • Minimum of five years engine/engine component and preferably turbocharger experience in addition to having been customer-facing.
  • Detailed knowledge of the workings of internal combustion engines.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in diesel engine or automotive component development. Proficient in use of Microsoft – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook.

The jobholder is responsible for working in compliance with BorgWarner’s policies and procedures to identify and record issues relating to the management of risk.

Working Environment

Comfortable air-conditioned office with some work in a controlled factory environment, with some Health & Safety risks.

Routine visits to the factory where full PPE will be required to be worn.
