BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individuals to join as an Engineering Lead, Electronics Mechanical Design at our Gateshead Technical Centre (GTC) Gateshead UK.

In this role, the Engineering Lead, Electronics Mechanical Design will be primarily responsible staffing and managing a team of engineering specialists in electronics mechanical design, specifically for use in power electronics applications. Will be expected to oversee the technical execution of their team, contribute directly to the design creation and analysis, and deliver to the project timeline and objectives. Will ensure that BorgWarner’s electronics products are properly specified, designed and tested to meet customer performance requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Technical oversite of the Mechanical Hardware Design, MCAD, and ECAD
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate efforts of the power electronics Mechanical Design team to meet internal and external customer requirements
  • Manage and prioritize workload of the team and related outside resources.  Maintain visibility of workload to engineering organization
  • Development of team members - including Workday Performance processes and recruitment
  • Evaluate and monitor quality of work, responsiveness, and communication of the team
  • Create standard work processes, design templates and guidelines for mechanical design of power electronics products
  • Assess and coordinate training according to company and employee growth needs
  • Create and maintain power electronics product and technology roadmaps
  • Communicate and enforce safe work procedures
  • Identification and closure of safety issues (suggestions, inspection and investigation findings, hazards and controls, GSSF actions) and their corrective actions

Must have experience and skills in ALL of these areas below:

  • Familiar with FEA tools used for thermal, vibration, fluid flow, and structural analysis
  • Familiar with engineering documentation (drawings, dimensioning and tolerancing) and industry standards (i.e. SAE and ISO-26262)
  • Familiar with requirements compliance planning and testing (V Diagram fulfilment)
  • Familiar with structured problem-solving methods (i.e. 8D)
  • Supplier development experience
  • Excellent people skills and history of teamwork
  • Determines best techniques/procedure and applies for analysis, design, or experimental procedures

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Automotive experience strongly preferred
  • Familiar with MCAD design tools preferred (Solidworks)

  • Willingness/ability to travel 10% both domestic and international

Qualifications and relevant experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Significant industry related experience

  • Proven engineering management experience required specific to electronics hardware design
