POSITION SUMMARY
BorgWarner Emissions &Thermal Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Application Engineer at our manufacturing facility in Cadillac, Michigan. This position has engineering responsibility for the application of new and existing thermal management products serving the Commercial Vehicle and/or the Light Vehicle market. Examples of the products are engine cooling fans, fan clutches, water pumps and pulley/bearing assemblies
Position is expected to handle product design evolution, new product concepts or solutions. Work efforts require designs to be analytically evaluated for feasibility and then subsequently tested, validated and released for production launch. The Application Engineer will provide technical expertise and/or assistance to internal and external customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Obtain and access technical market information, requirements and trends to meet and create future product needs from many sources, including:  customers, the market, account managers, program engineering, program manager, manufacturing and test engineering. 
  • Responsible for participating in product/plant cost reductions and product rationalization, as well as coordinating PV and PPAP builds for new program launches.
  •  Provide engineering reports and presentations to clearly convey project progress, conclusions and recommendations is required.
  • Conduct and/or design experiments and tests to characterize performance, identify potential improvements, and verify these performance improvements in a scientific manner. 
  • Work in a department consisting of program engineering, design engineering, test engineering, procurement, fabrication, and test laboratories.  Interface with manufacturing engineering and sales and marketing groups is also frequent.
  • Maintain open communication within the organization and be able to work well in a group / team atmosphere.
  • Possess a willingness and eagerness to undertake new and challenging work assignments, define creative solutions and manage projects and day-to-day product issues. 
  • Effectively apply and understand BorgWarner quality processes and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Mechanical or Electrical preferred.
  • Greater than 3 years’ experience in a related field desirable
  • Greater than 2 years product engineering experience in vehicle engine cooling systems, or equivalent is desirable. 
  • Prior experience as with a successful product launch.
  • Academic proficiency in statics, dynamics, structures and thermodynamics. 
  • Desired skills, but not required: 
    • Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, 3D-CAD modeling and engine cooling system analysis.
    • Knowledge of fluid mechanics as it may related to coolant pumps (fluid) and fans/clutches (air). 
    • Experience with flow controlling devices such as fixed pumps, clutched pumps, oil pumps, or radiators is preferred.  Airflow management experience is desirable, also.
    • Proficient use of problem-solving tools such as RedX or 8D. 
    • Six Sigma experience.
    • Experience in calibration or control systems.
