Maintenance Controls Engineer


The Maintenance Controls  Engineer is directly responsible for the activities of the maintenance department relating to:-

  • Equipment breakdown controls related, provides corrective actions, including training to relevant employee groups and countermeasures
  • Provides dedicated team working relationship between Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance Engineers to develop knowledge and processes to support breakdowns on equipment related
  • Equipment breakdown corrective actions and countermeasures-primary
  • Responsible for controls planner group SAP Notifications for XM01/XM02/XM03
  • Defining and working to set objectives and specifications towards meeting key performance indicators (KPI) in Quality, Cost and Delivery
  • New project implementation and equipment installation support, controls related primary function Development of personal skill sets and capabilities
  • Support maintaining stock/supplier control for replacement/spare equipment
  • Integrates well into a team environment and is able to harbour harmonious working relationships
  • Has a strong focus on team goals, as well as individual commitments. Expectations to undertake Siemens approved programming courses

Key Duties:


  • Ensure that work is conducted efficiently and adhere to procedures in order to meet health & Safety, cost & quality targets
  • Liaise with Production department personnel on a daily basis to resolve daily equipment operating concerns corrective actions, documented on SAP, to production priority requirements
  • Support effective diagnosis and analysis on equipment controls-(primary) related, electronic, electrical and mechanical faults and problems and implement corrective actions to return equipment to operational availability with minimal downtime
  • Lead equipment breakdown-Controls primary for corrective actions across following shifts to ensure continuity of repair and minimisation of equipment downtime
  • Support SAP schedule in accordance with the Controls department identified  by the Maintenance response Engineer
  • Proactively follow up corrective actions, XM01 SAP orders logged with root cause analysis and permanent countermeasure activity and implement countermeasures to minimise potential reoccurrence of a repeat fault
  • Support departmental projects activity work as assigned
  • Works with Maintenance Response Controls Engineer to balance resources across the department
  • Day shift role, flexible working patterns, required are pre-requisites in support of departmental operational activities

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Uphold and improve health and safety standards, including timely reaction to all health and safety issues
  • Ensure that safe and planned systems of work are used within relevant maintenance and equipment processes, ensuring that the current and appropriate Codes of Practice and Health and Safety Regulations are implemented and followed
  • Ensures that housekeeping standards are maintained Ensure working knowledge of Work Instructions relevant to Maintenance Engineer. Implementation of Work Instructions to support continuity and development
  • Undertake departments Risk Assessments on a monthly basis in line with schedule adherence

Employee Development

  • Maintain up to date knowledge/awareness of PLCs, electrical principles, technologies and techniques and introduce into operations where practical within allowable cost constraints
  • Develop awareness of and utilise effectively relevant analytical tools/techniques
  • Support relevant training courses
  • Develop own individual performance through continual performance review and appraisal process with departmental management Maintain high levels of professionalism and positive work ethic

  • The jobholder is responsible for working in compliance with BorgWarner’s policies and procedures to identify and record issues relating to the management of risk.

Knowledge & Experience:


  • HNC/HND minimum qualification in related discipline
  • Basic Electrical Skills advantage
  • IT literate, good knowledge of PC’s & IT Equipment

Working experience of the following would be advantageous:-

  • PLC programming knowledge S7
  • Root cause analysis tools and practical problem solving techniques
  • Lean Manufacturing techniques (kaizen, process mapping, standardized work, 5S, TPM, etc.)
  • PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows plus Microsoft packages (excel, word, SAP etc.)
