Maintenance Machinist

To perform all maintenance, repair, renovation of mechanical manual and automatic production machinery.  Set up and operate machining operations or Tool Room and tool making equipment.


The Maintenance Machinist is required to perform machining and replacement operations for all machines, machine tools, hand tools and auxiliary equipment throughout the complex.

Diagnose trouble on pneumatic, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical controlled mechanisms/machines.  Changing over and set-up of production machines.

Knowledge of physical properties of metals to perform machining operations and heat treating techniques.  Electric, gas welding, brazing, cutting, silver soldering of metals.  Record keeping of machine history; parts inventory of areas assigned.


Working from verbal, written assignments; service (manual and automatic) machinery and  auxiliary equipment, including diagnosis, tear-down, reassemble, layout and set-up of production machining operations.

The incumbent uses specific skills of the machinist trade, with the application of electrical circuitry and appropriate soft wiring procedures.  The highest application of mechanical knowledge of how/why mechanical equipment works.  Perform diagnostic and repair activities on complex mechanical, machinery systems.  Transpose graphic information to workable machinery parts.  Trigonometry and other mathematical methods.  Extensive decision making seldom checked by others.  Relationships usually involve discussions with stakeholders.  Performs work in accordance with a wide range of safety procedures.  High physical effort with close mental and visual attention is required.


This position will adhere to Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner Safety Policy Manual, which includes the use of equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the employer requires.  This individual will work in manners that stress the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses.  He/she must take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and coworkers.  In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to the immediate supervisor.


  • 5+ Years Experience in Industrial Machinist Trade
  • New York State Journeyperson Card
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Must be willing to work off-shift (2nd and/or 3rd)
