BorgWarner Power Drive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist located at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Noblesville, Indiana.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Human Resources Manager, the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the development and execution of all safety and environmental programs and processes including policy development, training, and implementation, at our Noblesville, IN and Anderson, IN facilities. Additionally, the incumbent will work with all levels of the organization to support and drive the creation of a strong culture that engages employees in the achievement of the company’s goal of zero incidents. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to complete complex assignments in an efficient manner requiring full use and application of Health and Safety knowledge. Scope of work includes wide range of difficult problems requiring originality and ingenuity. Position works with minimal supervision and may plan and assign indirect personnel for given projects or tasks. Incumbent will be expected to provide coaching and guidance to all levels of the organization.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops programs and procedures designed to reduce occupational and non-occupational accident/injury/illness experiences.
  • Promotes health and safety awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communications, participation, and programming.
  • Coordinates creation of site Environmental, Health and Safety targets and objectives in support of corporate, regional and business group EHS strategic initiatives designed to drive EHS culture, compliance, and results.
  • Manages development and maintenance of training programs on industrial safety, industrial hygiene, emergency planning, government regulations, hazardous materials, and other related issues. Tracks training completion.
  • Implements all aspects of the BorgWarner Global Star Safety Framework.
  • Identifies action-based EHS goals for site leadership team members, functional managers and front-line leaders to support achievement of the site’s EHS targets and objectives.
  • Ensures completion of site and workstation-level risk assessments to identify and prioritize Environmental, Health and Safety aspects and hazards.
  • Supports the deployment of Health and Safety element champions and teams and facilitates their engagement in ownership of the activities required to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manages the completion of a campus-wide evaluation of compliance with Federal, State, local and company Health and Safety requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Identify applicable OSHA, EPA, federal and state regulations to ensure compliance through standardized processes. Prepare and submit government reports as required by all applicable regulations.
  • Identifies and supports participation and/or achievement & maintenance of third-party recognition - such as OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 - that establish BorgWarner’s Health and Safety program as world-class.
  • Leads site efforts to ensure that key Health and Safety operational controls are in place and that Health and Safety action items are resolved on a timely basis.
  • Coordinates and investigates workplace incidents.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Safety Engineering and Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in managing environmental, occupational health or safety programs within a manufacturing or test/technical center environment.
  • Professional certification recommended (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Graduate Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist).
  • Working Knowledge of cross-functional EHS disciplines
  • Ergonomics experience
  • Management systems knowledge of planning, objectives and targets, preventative and corrective action, and monitoring/inspecting/auditing.
  • Must have ability to work with minimal supervision and must be capable of implementing EHS&S Function activities as directed.
  • Ability to lead and support cross-functional process improvement teams
  • Ability to act as an agent of change. Effective in enabling and driving change.
  • Ability to communicate with clarity, impact and passion with all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage and track multiple projects to completion
  • Understanding of manufacturing technologies and processes
