Medical Coverage

Comprehensive medical coverage is an important part of supporting healthy living. BorgWarner offers two medical plan options, both of which provide free preventive care to prevent healthcare problems before they arise, an employer-paid Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) to help you cover the costs when you are ill, and comprehensive medical coverage to protect you from any catastrophic financial effects of a serious illness or injury. Both the Basic and Buy-Up Plans include prescription drug coverage.

The deadline to obtain at least 5+ wellness points for the best premium discount for 2022, and to complete all spousal requirements to get the monthly surcharge waived for 2022 is September 30, 2021.

The Basic Plan   

This plan tends to appeal to someone who doesn’t want to pay upfront for healthcare they are not sure they’ll use. 
It offers:

  • Lower payroll deductions but a higher member deductible gap
  • Higher coinsurance

This plan tends to appeal to someone who is  willing to pay more upfront so they have the  security of more coverage at the time of service. 
It offers:

  • Higher payroll deductions but a lower member deductible gap (due to higher HRA credits)

In addition to the regular services offered through the app (such as finding network doctors, getting cost estimates for care, comparing prescription prices, managing and tracking claims and accessing your ID card), you can gain a new level of support through the One Guide® service. A Closer Look at How the Medical Plans Work

  • Post-HRA Out-of-Pocket Maximum 
    Once you reach this "safety-net" limit, you stop paying coinsurance and the Plan pays 100% of eligible expenses for the rest of the year.
  • Medical Plan Coinsurance 
    After you meet your member deductible gap, you and the Plan share the cost of covered services called "coinsurance."
  • Member Deductible Gap 
    This is your portion of the plan deductible. You pay 100% of costs out-of-pocket until this amount is reached.
  • Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) 
    A special account funded by BorgWarner that serves as the first source of  payment for medical expenses . It is designed to offset your Member Deductible Gap. (For new employees, this amount is pro-rated monthly  based on your hire date). Unused HRA funds can carry over for use in the  next plan year.

Preventive Care Coverage

Don't Be Wrongly Billed for Preventive Care

For your medical plan to cover 100% of the cost of your preventive care service, your physician must be sure to "code" the service as "preventive". If submitted as a "diagnostic procedure" or "treatment" visit, the service won't be considered preventive - meaning your standard deductibles and coinsurance will apply. Be sure to remind your provider to code the service as "preventive".

Care Management  

Cigna Care Management is designed to make sure you receive the services that are most appropriate for you. By using nurse case  managers to coordinate your care and checking in advance if a service is covered (called precertification), Cigna can help you lower costs, avoid unnecessary procedures and support during your recovery after a procedure. Cigna Telehealth Connection: When You Can’t Get to Your Doctor  

If you have a minor, non-life threatening medical condition and need care, you can connect with a board-certified doctor on your computer through  a video stream (e.g., Facetime or Skype) or over the phone, without leaving your home or office. Offered through the national telehealth provider MDLIVE, you can receive confidential personal care at a lower cost than visiting your primary care physician's office. New for 2020, you are also able to earn a wellness incentive point when you register with MDLive for the first time! If you have registered in the past, that you will count towards a point as well. Please note that this point is only able to be earned one time.

Omada - Diabetes Prevention Program

We offer a breakthrough online program that inspires healthy habits. This comprehensive 16-week program is available to employees and their covered spouses and dependents over the age of 18. It is designed to help individuals lose weight, which can help reduce the risk factors for type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. Participants enrolled in a BorgWarner medical plan that are at risk for developing diabetes are eligible to enroll at no cost- that’s a $600 savings!
