BORGWARNER SUPPLIES TURBOCHARGERS FOR DEUTZ HEAVY-DUTY AGRICULTURAL ENGINES

BorgWarner’s Optimized Turbocharging Technologies Help the New Diesel Engine Meet EU Emissions Standard IIIB and U.S. Tier 4 Interim Emissions Standards

Auburn Hills, Michigan, March 17, 2011 – BorgWarner supplies its latest B-series generation turbochargers for the newly developed DEUTZ 6.1-liter six-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine, used in the agricultural machinery segment with start of production in January 2011. The combination of BorgWarner’s advanced turbocharging technology and common-rail high-pressure injection provides a rated power of 203 kW at 2100 rpm and an impressive torque of 1170 Nm at 1450 rpm. In addition to providing outstanding performance, the optimized turbocharging system significantly boosts fuel economy, lowers emissions and helps comply with the stringent Tier 4 Interim emissions standard. DEUTZ, one of the largest independent manufacturers of diesel engines, will supply its fuel-efficient TCD 6.1 L6 engine to several of its customers.

“Our turbochargers enable heavy-duty commercial diesel engines to comply with increasingly rigorous global emissions standards while achieving better fuel economy and improved performance,” said Roger Wood, Executive Vice President, BorgWarner. “Based on our long-standing experience in the field of turbocharging systems, BorgWarner has the expertise and advanced technology to meet the growing demand in this market segment.”

To fulfill the high requirements for power, torque and reduced emissions, DEUTZ chose BorgWarner’s latest generation of turbochargers featuring a BorgWarner compact brushless actuator controlling the wastegate. During the development process, BorgWarner engineers developed a design which is reliable and robust while improving the fuel consumption and power output of the engine. The turbocharger is equipped with a milled aluminum wheel and a modified turbine housing to withstand high vibrational loading. The fast electric wastegate actuator controlled via a CAN bus provides precise BorgWarner Inc. (BorgWarner to Supply Turbochargers for DEUTZ Heavy-Duty Agricultural Engines) – 2 regulation of the boost pressure over the entire engine speed range. Compared with its predecessor, the new engine delivers a 13 percent improvement in power output and increases torque by almost 10 percent. Even under extreme environmental conditions in tough off-highway applications, the powerful engine also demonstrates outstanding cold start characteristics and the engine runs smoothly.
