BorgWarner Honored as Best Powertrain EMEA Supplier 2014 by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

BorgWarner’s Award-winning Engine Timing Systems Reduce Friction to Improve Engine Efficiency and Fuel Economy

Auburn Hills, Michigan, March 3, 2015 – BorgWarner Morse TEC recently received a Best Powertrain EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Supplier 2014 Award from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). The ceremony took place during the Qualitas Convention in Lingotto (Turin), Italy. BorgWarner was honored for its strong engineering contributions throughout the development of FCA’s Global Small Engine (GSE) platform and its excellent service level especially in part quality. Designed to reduce friction, BorgWarner’s leading engine timing systems drive several Fiat models for the EMEA region, including the Fiat Panda and Fiat 500.

“We are very proud to receive this prestigious award as a result of the deep and successful relationship between BorgWarner and FCA in recent years,” said Joe Fadool, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Morse TEC. “BorgWarner’s engine timing systems help improve engine efficiency by reducing power-wasting friction while simultaneously delivering lower noise and improved durability.”

BorgWarner’s advanced engine timing systems for direct-injected engines offer best-in-class strength, and feature low-weight and low-friction technologies to help improve fuel economy. Engineered to withstand high temperatures and tough operating environments, BorgWarner’s engine timing systems increase efficiency while reducing mass and improving wear. BorgWarner’s low-friction engine timing chain utilizes inverted tooth silent chain technology and an optimized link back shape. Compared with conventional technology, the optimized link back shape reduces the contact area and the friction as the chain slides along the arms and guides, which is where most friction losses occur. In addition to an improved link and chain design, the inverted tooth silent chain features a new ground-breaking vanadium carbide pin coating that improves wear performance compared with traditional pin coatings. Advanced manufacturing finishes, materials and coatings improve chain strength, durability, wear resistance and efficiency.

FCA’s Supplier Qualitas Convention 2014 was attended by more than 1,000 EMEA Region suppliers. During the event, 18 categories of Qualitas awards were presented to FCA’s best suppliers.
