BorgWarner Celebrates Long History and Recent Achievements in Brazil

BorgWarner Supports Automakers with Local Production of Innovative Technologies Engineered to Improve Fuel Economy, Emissions and Performance

Auburn Hills, Michigan, October 28th , 2015 – BorgWarner commemorated its long history and celebrated recent achievements as a powertrain supplier in Itatiba, Brazil. Employees trace their roots back to 1975 when about 25 employees produced turbochargers for commercial trucks in Campinas. The plant joined BorgWarner in 1999. As production and product lines expanded, BorgWarner outgrew the original facility and built a new campus in Itatiba in 2013. The new location includes Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified manufacturing and administrative space, as well as a new engineering center. Today, BorgWarner employees in Brazil produce environmentally friendly technologies such as turbochargers, viscous fans and fan drives, engine timing systems and thermostatic valves for passenger cars, commercial trucks, agricultural vehicles and construction equipment.

“BorgWarner is proud of our long history in Brazil and enthusiastic about our future. In 2015 alone, we opened a new engineering center, became the first to produce engine timing chain systems in Brazil, and developed and produced the first a flex fuel turbocharger for Brazil’s growing passenger car market,” said J Frédéric Lissalde, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Turbo Systems. “Our state-of-the-art production lines and local engineering expertise help automakers meet Brazil’s INOVAR-AUTO regulations while offering drivers improved fuel economy, lower emissions and enhanced performance.”

Using high-volume, lean manufacturing processes and precision robotics, BorgWarner supplies a variety of advanced technologies for a wide range of customers. A first for an automotive supplier in Brazil, BorgWarner’s manufacturing facility and engineering center in Itatiba achieved LEED certification, affirming BorgWarner’s efforts toward sustainable building strategies and environmentally friendly practices.
