BorgWarner’s Engine Timing System Improves Engine Efficiency for Renault Kwid in Brazil

  • Low-weight, low-friction, low-noise design helps improve fuel economy
  • Supports engine downsizing

Auburn Hills, Michigan, September 29th, 2017 -  BorgWarner, a global leader in clean and efficient technology solutions for combustion, hybrid and electric vehicles, supplies the engine timing system for Renault’s newest compact vehicle in Brazil, the 1.0-liter Kwid. Designed to reduce mass, friction and noise, BorgWarner’s engine timing system—including silent timing chains, guides, arms and tensioners—supports applications that require high durability, engine efficiency and fuel economy.

“Downsized engines require low-friction, high wear-resistant timing systems. Each component of BorgWarner’s engine timing system is designed to improve efficiency and durability,” said Wilson Lentini, Plant Manager, BorgWarner Morse Systems. “We are pleased to provide Renault with local production of our proven engine timing system components in Brazil.”

Designed for light-duty engines, BorgWarner’s silent engine timing chains feature super finish aperture (SFA) links to improve wear performance and optimized chain geometry to reduce mass. Advanced designs and manufacturing processes decrease friction up to 25 percent, resulting in improved fuel economy, less noise and greater durability. BorgWarner’s tensioners, arms and guides are engineered with specialized materials to reduce mass and package size for improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
