Functional Safety Assessor

  • Provide internal product functional safety assessments on all ASIL items per ISO 26262 to ensure compliance with all related customer requirements

  • Coordinate with Functional Safety Engineers to provide internal coaching and guidance on functional safety requirements and execution strategies

Job role & responsibilities:

  • Perform program functional safety assessments at appropriate program milestones and provided feedback and guidance to the development teams regarding gaps to requirements and improvement opportunities

  • Provide feedback to the development organizations regarding their execution of functional safety work products and gaps to the requirements

  • Support on-going feedback to the Quality and Engineering leadership regarding functional safety execution, gaps to requirements, and continuous improvement opportunities

  • Develop, adapt, and support functional safety assessment processes and tools in coordination with other BorgWarner Business Unit

Must have experience and skills in ALL of these areas below:

  • Significant experience managing functional safety programs for the automotive industry according to ISO26262 or similar

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent

  • 3 to 5 years minimum experience in development of automotive electrical, electronic, and/or mechatronic systems or demonstrated equivalent

  • Experience in development of Safety Plans/ Safety Cases for products with ASIL requirements highly preferred

  • Recognized certification in Functional Safety Audit/ Assessing

  • Skilled with traditional tools and processes for quality assurance (FMEA, DVP, Quality tools, problem solving…)

  • Strong ability to organize, communicate, and work as part of a global team

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience and expertise in product safety of high voltage electrical systems

  • In depth knowledge of the safety lifecycle and the management of the application of ISO26262 to automotive component development programs

  • Knowledge and awareness of IATF 16949 supplemental and its specific requirements of product safety

  • A-SPICE assessor certification and auditing experience is a strong plus factor

  • Structured individual with good problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills and able to deal with all levels of the organisation

  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise work accordingly

  • Comfortable in customer facing role, confident and thoughtful

  • Must be able to work alone with minimum guidance, but also be able to operate effectively as part of a team.

  • Flexibility to travel in UK and overseas

Qualifications required:

  • 2:1 in relevant engineering qualification

  • Recognised certification in ISO262626 ( or preparedness to immediately gain )

Relevant professional experience:

  • Automotive industry
