Supervisor, Supplier Quality

The primary function of the SQE Supervisor is to provide leadership, support and training for the supplier quality team and to perform all the duties of a SQE which include; assessing, developing, and continuously improving the quality of product suppliers provide to the BW manufacturing plants.


SQE Supervisor

  • Interface with critical/strategic Suppliers in a Leadership role
  • Be a escalation point for SQE’s when dealing with suppliers and be the point of contact for the global and regional teams
  • Drive and improve supplier quality performance
  • Mentor, train, support and assess SQE team members
  • Develop and continuously improve KPI’s and objectives
  • Be the escalation link between production and SQE to manage supplier quality problems
  • Coordinate activities with external sorting company

Supplier APQP/PPAP

  • Develop the assessments and scorecards used for supplier APQP visits, WAR audits and continuous improvement visits (includes process control plan and PFMEA reviews with a particular focus on high impact and pass through characteristics)
  • Assist in identifying “high impact” suppliers
  • Ensure APQP target dates are successfully met
  • Drive supplier incident reduction to the BW manufacturing plants
  • Proactively work with suppliers to achieve Launch Excellence and Safe Launch objectives
  • Drive improvement in all Supplier Key Process Indicators (KPI)
  • Manage the review and disposition of Supplier PPAP submissions

Supplier Continuous Improvement

  • Initiate, track, and report out suppliers’ continuous improvement activities
  • Work closely with suppliers to improve suppliers’ processes with the focus on a “0 PPM” expectation, proactively identifying and removing risk to product quality
  • Employ Continuous improvement, Root Cause Problem Solving, and/or Six Sigma methodologies to drive quality risk, waste, and cost out of the Supply Chain
  • Drive changes to purchased parts in order to improve performance in our production lines

Supplier Quality Audits

  • Support Supplier Quality Training at suppliers’ facilities to meet client’s and/or customer’s specific quality expectations/requirements
  • Conduct Supplier Audits (WAR, QMS , APQP, Continuous Improvement, implemented corrective actions plans, key characteristics walk, SPC review, etc.)

  • Bachelor's degree. Engineering preferred. 
  • 5-8 years of experience in the automotive industry with at least 3 in Quality Engineering. Experience in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge in manufacturing problem solving (A3 or 8-D Methodology) and manufacturing processes required
  • Knowledge of IATF16949 requirements including APQP and PPAP
  • Knowledge of SPC required
  • Effective at defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and/or concrete variables. Proficient at developing trip reports, general business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from management and/or customers.
