Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Plant Quality Manager, the Quality Systems Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and execution of the Quality Management System (QMS) for the BorgWarner Kokomo, IN facility.

The Quality Systems Specialist will:
1) Administrate and maintain site QMS compliance to industry, company and customer quality standards, including: ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 / VDA TISAX (ISO 27001), ISO 17025, VDA (as applicable)

2) Facilitate and support continual improvement objectives to enhance quality system(s) effectiveness and reduce waste

3) Co-ordinate internal quality auditing program(s) and facilitate corrective actions across the organization

Strategy and Development

  • Establish and maintain the local organizational policies and standards for the Quality and Information Security Management Systems respecting corporate level, customer, and industry requirements.
  • Work with plant quality manager to develop the future state vision of QMS and to facilitate team execution of the action plan(s). Actively support creating a sustainable culture of continual improvement of the quality management system and quality practices within the plant
  • Prioritize and execute the quality management systems improvement roadmap by developing and deploying lean tools, principals, and processes to increase overall quality and eliminate waste
  • Provide advanced support and training in core quality competency tools: Control Plan; FMEA; Problem Solving and SPC (is plus)
  • Support collaborative improvement efforts across regional and global quality organization(s)

General and Task Management

  • Lead overall coordination of IATF16949 certification for the Plant in cooperation with the plant’s Quality Manager
  • Define and develop leadership standard work, including management review of KPI’s, key milestones and deliverables to ensure flawless execution of IATF16949 requirements and site QMS certification(s)
  • Provide QMS representation, coordinate with registrar for all certifications, surveillance audits, and change of scope activities
  • Ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place to satisfy all customer requirements and external certified bodies
  • Manage all external registration requirements to ensure they are met. Single point of contact with external parties on all matters relating to QMS registration and management systems for the site
  • Ensure the consistent implementation and oversight of local and corporate processes through the internal and external audit processes.
  • Maintain process risk matrix and track/follow up mitigation and corrective actions with local team.
  • Lead and coordinate continuous improvement of the QMS and all of its elements. Supports introduction of new tools, systems and technologies to improve business process efficiency
  • Lead site’s internal audit program(s).  Develop team competencies, implement audit plan, coordinate internal auditors and facilitate corrective action follow through
  • Onsite training of staff in all aspects of the quality system and applicable procedures.  Develop training modules and provide advanced support and training on core quality competency tools
  • Develop and manage performance of direct reports, if applicable
  • Develop, maintain, and report Site metrics including Balanced Scorecards, 8D Management (Issuance, Closure), Quality KPIs, etc.

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Work in collaboration with all local leadership and partner with Corporate quality team and key stakeholders to implement and improve the quality strategy
  • Communicate with personnel at multiple levels, internally and externally

  • Excellent attention to detail and process/system orientation required
  • In depth understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, VDA6.3) standards and requirements.
  • Preferred certification to at least one of the following: IATF 16949, ISO 17025, TISAX (ISO 27001), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) or CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor)
  • Certified Lead Auditor
  • Proven strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Lean manufacturing and 2 years+ change management experience preferred
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification, or RedX Shainin Certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the latest Automotive tools and techniques preferred
  • Experienced trainer with prior managerial experience preferred

Additional Information:

  • Travel is occasionally required, up to 5% of the time.

  • Wear PPE when appropriate in designated campus areas.
  • Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. on occasion.

Education & Experience

  • 3-5 years of quality experience required.
  • 2+ years Manufacturing /Quality Assurance experience in the automotive industry required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Engineering required or equivalent degree
