Implement, support, and manage supplier development needs and performance to enable superior supplier selection and continuous improvement of processes that guarantee flawless launches and the delivery of zero defect and on-time components for production. Responsibilities can include supporting APQP process milestones as part of new product launches, the coordination of technical reviews, and the development of supplier capabilities to meet BorgWarner’s requirements. Identify, plan and implement supplier continuous improvement activities via QIP (Quality Improvement Plan), VA/VE, Kaizen, Lean and advanced problem solving tools such as Six Sigma and Red-X.

For the European based position, we are looking for deep technical and manufacturing process knowledge in stampings, in particular, transfer, progressive, deep draw and fine blanking.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with suppliers to improve processes with the focus of eliminating waste and driving non-value added cost out of the supply chain
  • Support both local and global needs visiting new/resourced and or “high impact” suppliers to ensure APQP process integrity and timing
  • Coordinate special characteristic identification via cross-functional team approach and ensure supplier conformance to requirements
  • Coordinate technical reviews and assessments with suppliers when required. Review quality problems with engineering personnel and direct action required to correct defects at the supplier
  • Drive performance improvements to the established objectives at Suppliers. Develop and implement quality initiatives to reduce PPM's, CPM’s, and improve 8D response times
  • Conduct Supplier Quality training at Suppliers
  • Coordinate cross functional technical problem resolution at suppliers using advanced problem solving tools and commodity specific knowledge
  • Assist plants in the coordination and setting standards for sampling inspection and testing of received parts, components, and materials to determine conformance to standards
  • Prepare periodic and special reports concerning supplier improvement activities, subcontractor's quality system, schedules, and rejected items
  • Visit potential new suppliers to assess their quality systems and visit problem suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve systems.


  • 10 plus years of experience in SCM, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering from four-year college or             university
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (required); Black Belt (preferred)
  • Lean Manufacturing Background (preferred)
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or national equivalent is a preferred certification
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills - Position interacts with all levels of BorgWarner/Supplier Management 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Must be self-motivated/directed. Required to determine most, if not all, of own work assignments; both tactical and strategic. Requires minimal management input to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, suppliers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Multi Linguistic a plus
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • General knowledge of SPC and statistics required
