BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Electrification Systems Engineer at our Customer Technology Center Michigan (CTCM) in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Position Summary:

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Systems Engineering Group Manger, the Electrification OBD Systems & Calibration Engineer - Senior will be responsible for the design, development, documentation, verification, validation, and calibration of Automotive Software Architecture and Function Algorithms related to High Voltage Inverters and other Vehicle Electrification component Diagnostic & Control modules to meet customer, internal, and regulatory requirement in a fast-paced start-up like environment within a Fortune 500 Organization.

Job Duties:

  • Leading the Electrification Diagnostic Monitors Software calibration & robustness process deployment, and mentor multi-disciplinary System Engineers on the same
  • Be responsible for establishing methods and own overall calibrations for Electrification Diagnostic Monitors Software, and championing data acquisition on Low Voltage & High Voltage benches/vehicles, analysis of data, and applying data analysis results back into the module for algorithm improvement, robustness, & calibration
  • Work with a cross-disciplinary and cross-functional Teams to develop requirements, definitions, and algorithms for High Voltage Inverters and other Vehicle Electrification components
  • Be the Feature Owner for High Voltage Inverters and other Vehicle Electrification components Diagnostic Monitor modules, working through the entire ASPICE V-Cycle
  • Apply High Voltage Inverters and other Vehicle Electrification components and Systems knowledge to accelerate the development of Electrification Diagnostic Monitor Software algorithms, while bringing out-of-box thinking to the Team
  • Work with the Application Team and support/facilitate test trips, while adhering to tight Project timelines
  • Interface and co-ordinate with Software and IT&V engineering to support development and debugging for the owned modules
  • Participate in ECU design reviews with internal cross-functional engineering group, suppliers, and customers


  • B.S. in Power Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering / Automotive Engineering or similar field
  • 3+ years' experience with vehicle embedded systems and functions preferably on high voltage High Voltage Inverters and other Vehicle Electrification components products
  • 3+ years’ experience with Powertrain and/or Vehicle System calibrations
  • 3+ years’ Experience with INCA, Matlab / Simulink, and ability to read and understand C & C++ code
  • 3+ years’ Experience with data acquisition and calibration using tools like CRETA, INCA, v-SPY, Vector CANdela and general knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, LIN, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of automotive systems and software development processes using the V-Model for both design and verification/validation activities
  • Experience with power-electronics and high voltage traction inverters
  • Understanding of AUTOSAR Architecture(s)
  • Experience applying DFSS or similar techniques – black-belt preferred
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% as required to support customer and internal needs
  • Willing to experiment & take risks, and be a self-starter

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree Power Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering / Automotive Engineering or similar field
  • Experience with Activity Management Software (i.e. Jira) and Requirements Management Software (i.e. Polarion)
  • Experience using MIL/SIL/HIL environments, preferably dSPACE
  • Knowledge of AGILE development methodologies
  • Knowledge of CARB OBD and/or ISO-26262 regulations
  • Experience with CARB certification for Powertrain modules
  • Experience with embedded platforms, microcontrollers, A/D converters and digital logic
  • Experience with controlling automotive BLDC motors, solenoids and sensors
