Student (m/f/d) for an Internship "Thrust bearing standalone application"

Turbochargers improve the efficiency and helps in down-sizing IC engines. Their rotors are supported on radial and axial bearings. Safe and reliable operation of these bearings is critical for the functioning of turbochargers. These bearings should be able to support the dynamic loads induced in the turbochargers during their operation. We offer an opportunity for a potential student to create a standalone application in COMSOL to design axial bearings. Further collaboration on this project in the form of a Bachelor/Master thesis is optionally possible.

Your Key Accountabilities:   

  • Axial bearing modelling in COMSOL and parameterize bearing geometry variables
  • Create a standalone application in COMSOL for axial bearings
  • Create a user manual and document the steps involved in the bearing design

Your Profile:
 

  • Student (m/f/d) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Basic knowledge on Fluid mechanics, Partial differential equations, Finite Element methods
  • Hands on experience (not essential) with MATLAB, COMSOL
  • Experience with programming in JAVA or C++
  • Problem solving skills, self-learning approach
