BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer supporting our Electrical Controller Units (ECU)s at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Kokomo, Indiana.

In this role the ECU Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the electronic design of automotive powertrain electronic control units (ECU) to meet customer requirements, including electrical Functional Safety (FS) compliance.  The ECU design will be microprocessor based and will require the design (and reuse) of digital and analog circuits that must operate across a broad temperature and voltage range as well as surviving multiple electrical transients.  Working with a cross competency team to develop the entire design will also be required.                              

Job Duties:

  • Ability to read and understand Customer Requirement Documents and determine electrical solutions.
  • Follow the BorgWarner Electrical Design process, adhere to all BorgWarner Design Standards, and provide all process deliverables to ensure that the product will meet customer requirements.
  • Follow the BorgWarner Functional Safety (FS) process.  Provide all electrical process deliverables (Work Products) and support cross competency deliverables to ensure Functional Safety compliance to the customer defined safety goals.
  • Design digital and analog circuits and select components for microprocessor-based systems that comply with the customer requirements, and are compatible with the mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
  • Support component engineering and purchasing to define, source,  and qualify new components
  • Perform and document worst case analysis for all circuits to verify conformance to the requirements.
  • Design within defined cost targets and within defined timeline.
  • Direct circuit board layout to ensure compliance to BorgWarner and Industry standards.
  • Direct the creation, and verify the accuracy and completeness of the product documentation used by the assembly plant to build the product at high volume.
  • Perform product testing in the lab to ensure capability and compliance to customer requirements
  • Develop and document plans and test methods to confirm that the electrical design meets customer requirements including EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility).
  • Trouble-shoot failures to the component level, determine short term containment, determine root cause and corrective action, and document all of the above.
  • Support product builds at the assembly plant, both prototypes as well as production. Willing to travel internationally.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with a minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • 5+ years of engineering experience working with microprocessor-based systems required or will consider less years of experience with MSEE
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Automotive experience preferred
  • Simulation and Analysis experience (Mathcad and Saber preferred)
  • Effective use of lab equipment to troubleshoot complex circuit designs
  • Self-motivated and effective use and management of time
  • Strong attention to detail/ detail oriented
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to multitask across various projects
