Assistant Buyer

This position is responsible for supporting the procurement of indirect items and materials required to support production, maintenance and supplier development.  Support the Purchasing team in achieving goals and objectives that support a world class procurement process.


Maintain SAP work list, including issuing PO’s, filing PO’s and tracking all orders to receipt.   Process purchase orders, tooling orders, return PO’s. Communicate BW blueprint revisions to the supply base and ensure the necessary follow up is coordinated to ensure compliance. Assist in educating suppliers on BorgWarner expectations and ensuring compliance.  Communicate to internal customers and external suppliers ensuring customer satisfaction. Maintain supplier files, includes NDA’s, TS certification, tooling PO’s and all other required documents. Maintain Supplier SAP and SPS master data within the respective systems. Develop and apply negotiating skills to ensure best values. Maintain accurate and well-organized files and records, supporting purchasing and supplier quality initiatives. Maintain supplier database, including sub-contractor data in accordance with company policy, GSSF, TS-16949 and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Create and maintain supplier capacity records. Maintain purchase orders, supplier and part number files in accordance with Borg Warner procedures. Monitor supplier score card access. Maintain MRO supplies throughout the plant, includes stocking, organizing, reordering and reducing costs. Create and maintain supplier tooling PO records and details along with capacity records. Maintain tooling database by part number. Perform data entry as required (example - capital equipment orders). Participate as an active member of the purchasing team in continuously looking for ways to improve the purchasing/material procurement process. Assist purchasing with commodity projects / strategies. Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned. Use of required PPE; following safety rules and procedures and training others; compliance with plant code of conduct. Attendance at safety and health training sessions Housekeeping practice.

  • Associates Degree
  • 1-3 year experience


  • PC literacy – Competent in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills for both internal and external customers
  • Strong planning & organization skills for multi-tasking.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Strong keyboard skills.
  • Excellent reading and writing skills.
  • Good math skills.
