Simulation and Assembly Engineer

Primary activity is to develop assembly, process and logistics simulations to evaluate the productive capabilities of manufacturing, assembly, and material handling within BW DTS China facilities.
Secondary activity is the development of assembly processes and specification of assembly equipment.
The simulation and assembly engineer will support both above described activities as needed and directed by the China GME lead.
The Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) team provides global engineering support in the development of manufacturing standards and equipment to manufacture new or improved processes.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Simulation

  • Use the BW standardized simulation software programs to model existing or new manufacturing, assembly, and logistics systems to represent system capabilities. Primary types of simulations required are for supporting:
    • Assembly lines
  • Development of new process technologies for Cost Reduction, Output Increase, Quality Increase, improved Product Performance.
    • Support the plants for volume uplifts and needed process changes when required

  • Use best practice, lessons learned and benchmarking for rapid development of simulation models. Includes development of simulation model library of common processes within area of responsibility.
  • Ability to interpret simulation model results and present to BW Management as required
  • Support industrial engineering function with providing work measurement, line balancing, and logistical planning analysis.
  • Provide simulation training for targeted employees in the plants.

    Assembly

  • Identify and lead the development of new assembly processes or modifications to existing processes. This activity encompasses testing of new processes/tooling, performing process capability studies, DOE’s, and establishing process parameters through the use of the prototype lab, production facility, or other selective resources. In addition, cycle time, uptime, yield, and costs are to be evaluated.
  • Develop and update standards and bills of process to ensure a consistent global process approach to manufacturing engineering. And support the plants to establish the standards.
  • Collaborate with product engineering on new product concepts to ensure the design is manufacturable.
  • Prepare initial process flow and layouts along with manufacturing cost estimates on assigned projects in conjunction with the plant.
  • Support new project quotation and manufacturing investment estimations.

    Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering or similar field, or business.
  • Min. 5 years related experience
  • Must have some familiarity in programming and open to write coding
  • Must have 2 years of experience with simulation software, ideally with Siemens Tecnomatrix simulation software
  • Experience in automotive mass production
  • Experience in assembly technologies and material handling / logistics methods preferred
  • Experience in optimization of existing production equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
    • Ability to conduct meetings and present results to Management
  • Ability to be creative and think outside the box
  • Willingness to travel domestically
