The Storage Infrastructure Specialist will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of all IT storage, archiving, backup and cloud infrastructure assets.  He/she will implement, maintain and monitor the storage, archiving, backup, and cloud environments.  In addition, the Storage Infrastructure Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the design of IT solutions as required to support BorgWarner business needs.  He/she will ensure storage and backup systems are fully functional and in compliance with any established SLA.  This is a hands-on technical position reporting to the IT Manager, Storage and Cloud Services.


  • Daily health check and status report of storage systems to the IT Manager
  • Daily review of backup jobs for multiple business locations to ensure data backups are fully functional.  Status must be reported to and audited by the IT Manager
  • Escalation and resolution of any issues in the storage and backup infrastructure
  • Responsible for communicating storage and backup environment issues and their resolution to the IT Manager.
  • Develop, document, maintain IT processes and procedures related to storage and backup services
  • Develop, document, maintain and test Disaster Recovery plans for multiple locations.
  • Ensure that  Storage and Backup Platform standards, roadmaps and service SLAs established by the  IT Manager and Global Architect are followed
  • Maintain storage and backup infrastructure software and firmware revision levels
  • Install, configure and maintain storage and backup systems as required to support BorgWarner business needs including SAN, NAS, CAS, Avamar, and other data storage platforms.
  • Provide service and support on a 24x7 schedule established by the IT Manager including emergency response to system outages and daily reporting of system health checks to the Storage and Cloud Services Manager
  • Work with other IT and application teams to implement automation of their processes and improved monitoring of their systems.


  • B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or equivalent job experience
  • Minimum of 10+ Years’ Experience Working as part of an IT Team managing storage and backups systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; able to address business issues and conflicts in a professional, constructive, and non-technical manner
  • Ability to produce quality results in a dynamic work environment with minimal supervision
  • Must be well organized, show initiative, and accept responsibility for issues and their resolution
  • Must possess, and demonstrate the ability to learn and apply a high level of technical to daily operations surrounding storage and cloud platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with peers and cross-functional team members from a variety of business functions
  • Hands on experience performing recovery services on file systems, database platforms and bare metal recovery
  • Excellent working knowledge of RAID types and their application in production systems for optimal performance and fault tolerance
  • Administration, monitoring and support of various Dell/EMC systems.  (VNX SAN/NAS or other SAN/NAS platform, ECS, ATMOS, Avamar, DataDomain, etc.)
  • Experience in the storage and backup solution design as well as operational support for SAP, Oracle, VMWare, SQL, Sharepoint, Exchange and other applications with high IOPS requirements
  • Proficiency with VM management tools

Experience and Basic Working Knowledge of the following technologies preferred:

  • Windows Server OS’s
  • Linux Server OS’s (Red Hat)
  • SAN Fabric Switches
  • VMWare Virtual Infrastructure
  • Cisco Catalyst and Nexus Switch Products
  • ServiceNow
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • ITIL concepts and policies
  • Experience with server automation solutions
  • PowerShell and other scripting skills
  • Experience with System Center, especially System Center Operations Manager. (SCOM)
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Nasuni hybrid cloud storage
  • Symantec System Endpoint Protection
  • Backup reporting tools (Data Protection Adviser)
  • Cloud automation tools (like puppet and Service Now)
  • Cloud Management Platforms (VMware vRealize, Cisco Enterprise Cloud, Microsoft Azure Stack etc.)


This position will adhere to the Global Star Safety Framework as well as safety rules, use of equipment, protective devices, safety practices, and training which are outlined in the BorgWarner PTC Safety Policy Manual. This individual will work in manners that stress the importance of preventing incidents and illnesses. He/she must take every reasonable precaution for the protection of themselves and coworkers. In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and behaviors to their immediate supervisor.
