The group leverages this understanding of powertrain clutching technology to develop interactive control systems and strategies for all types of torque management.

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Technical Product Lead (TPL) – Electric Drives supporting the Rotating Electric / Electric Drive Product Line at our Noblesville Technical Center (NTC) in Noblesville, IN.

In this role, Electric Drive TPL is responsible for all aspects of a technical project including integration, planning, technical oversight & execution for specific product or family within integrated electric drives to meet and exceed customer requirements. The Electric Drive TPL coordinates cross functional teams and drives development of electric drive hardware and controls with responsibilities for technical direction, timing, budget and validation of the final product and alignment between electric machines, power electronics, controls, validation, application engineering and systems teams. He or she will provide technical leadership and engineering guidance to execute the power electronics products. TPL will be the main technical interface with customers and will lead a global project team developing concept through production. He/she will also support sales in customer interaction for new business opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leads and manages the global project team to execute a product or family of products within the electric drive product line
  • Responsible for Hardware, Controls & SW integration for electric drive products
  • Main technical interface to customers
  • Understands customers’ needs and can find common ground to create a saleable product.
  • Work with the project team to achieve the performance and cost targets as well as communication with customers in a timely manner
  • Develop strategic action plans to support business goals
  • Support development of internal product specifications based on customer requirements or market needs.
  • Able to break down system specifications into sub-system requirements
  • Create product engineering specific timing plans and track and report progress (design, testing, etc.).
  • Provides technical direction and oversight for product development teams
  • Implement best practices and processes for electric drive integration
  • Work with prototype buyer on procurement of parts. 
  • Support manufacturing engineering to develop build processes
  • Able to create and direct test programs to ensure system durability and performance acceptance for hardware, controls and software
  • Follow & support the engineering change process for supported products
  • Monitor and report product reliability and warranty
  • Able to create budget documents and present compelling cases to management
  • Monitor competitor and customer development activity globally and coordinate/perform analysis of competitive products.

Education and Experience:

  • BS In Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree is required
  • Automotive experience required
  • 10+ years’ experience in engineering field with detailed working knowledge of electric machines, power electronics, motor controls, and/or hybrid-electric / full- electric drivetrains is required
  • Organized and structured work-style and attention to detail are required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language required
  • Strong PC knowledge and experience are required
  • Travel 10% required
  • Must be able to work independently
  • In-depth understanding of AC machines design is preferred
  • Knowledge of 3-phase switching power converter technologies is preferred
  • Knowledge in controls algorithms for electric motors is preferred
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis preferred
