The Drivetrain Group harnesses a legacy of more than 100 years as an industry innovator in transmission and all-wheel drive technology. The group leverages this understanding of powertrain clutching technology to develop interactive control systems and strategies for all types of torque management.

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, which is in the Drivetrain Group, is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Hardware Development Lead for Electronic Control Unit (ECU) at our Propulsion Technical Center (PTC) in Auburn Hills MI.

As a HW Dev Lead for ECU’s you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project management for the ECU over the entire development life cycle from concept to serial production.  You will be responsible for interfacing with internal and external customer to derive electrical, mechanical, and validation requirements and creating a technical specification for the ECU HW.  You will be responsible for technical and project management oversite and review of suppliers in the design, development, and validation of the ECU ensuring that the product meets BW and the end customer expectations.  You will support the customer interface regarding technical and project management aspect of the program relative to ECU HW.  In your daily work you will also interact with different roles and functions within the company like purchasing sales, program management, software, and quality.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide program management and technical leadership of the electrical HW in the execution of customer programs and internal development projects.
  • Primary technical customer contact for BorgWarner’s ECU hardware and electronics in the Electronics Systems & Controls (ES&C) team.
  • Review, monitoring, and approval of ECU HW development and timing plans to meet internal and external deliveries.
  • Development of HW specification from customer and internal requirements.
  • Supplier planning, management, and oversight
  • ECU prototype and production release process.
  • Review and approval of validation test plans and reports with supplier and customer.
  • Technical customer contact for BW electrical HW related topics.
  • Support internal departments and represent ES&C within the engineering organization.
  • HW compliance to customer specification.
  • Facilitate the investigation, root cause analysis, resolution development, and manage the closure of all relevant program/product issues in support of product development, production, line returns, warranty returns and service issues related to ECU HW.
  • Responsible for the creation of ECU HW specification, requirement attainment and compliance, component design reviews (schematic, layout, mechanical packaging), and drawing/specification release.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QULIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree)
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience required
  • Solid experience developing electrical HW design and development; automotive and powertrain experience preferred. 
  • Experience and proven track record in leading complex hardware design and development activities from concept through production.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
  • Proficient in English language required
  • Strong project planning and management throughout the complete ECU development life-cycle.
  • Knowledge of Automotive SPICE,  APQP, DFMEA, Root Cause Analysis
  • Functional Safety (ISO26262) knowledge preferred
