SUMMARY

Performs a variety of simultaneous functions under the direction of manufacturing management, provides technical aid, direction and development to manufacturing and supports quality engineering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of the manufacturing of products within area of assigned responsibility ensuring the safety of all operations.
  • Plans and formulates manufacturing programs according to projects requirements.
  • Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project, such as technical studies, preparation of manufacturing processes and plant layouts, manufacturing feasibility studies, processing and estimating manufacturing costs, tooling and equipment, safety and ergonomic analysis, and assisting with the quality plan, in accordance with engineering disciplines of staff.
  • Reviews product design for manufacturability to meet company standards and customer contract specifications.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, testing, safety analysis and manufacturing problems.
  • Directs integration of technical activities and manufacturing of products.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and processes drawing releases as it pertains to manufacturing and safety.
  • Develops, implements and refines programming of CNC equipment.  This may include the directing and managing of subcontractors to perform this duty.
  • Designs and develops tooling for all shop processes.
  • Identifies, specifies, cost justifies and coordinates the installation of new equipment to increase capability, capacity, efficiency and safety of the manufacturing facility.
  • Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.
  • Other more detailed duties are outlined in  "Division Operating Procedure #1003 - New Product Launching Procedure" for new products.
  • Safety and health - Responsible for attending monthly safety training/meetings, identifying, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices to appropriate management and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner as appropriate; complete work activities in a safe manner and ensure department subordinates follow and comply with safety and health requirements for respective positions.  Participating in hazard analysis and incident investigation efforts.  Complete safety training requirements as outlined in the facility safety training matrix.
  • Quality – Responsible for being aware of impact on product quality and the importance of activities in achieving, maintaining, and improving quality, including customer requirements and the risks involved for the customer with non-conforming product.
  • Internal contacts - Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, and Finance
  • External contacts - Field Sales and suppliers

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Manufacturing Engineering or applied science plus three to five years experience or equivalent preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, time studies and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
