BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Systems Engineer – OBD Feature Owner supporting the Systems Engineering Competency at our Propulsion Technical Center (PTC) in Auburn Hills, MI.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work across engineering competencies, suppliers, and partners to ensure commitment to Systems Engineering Principles during the development, execution and verification
  • Lead technical development for the fault handling and OBD feature with cross-functional team, management and customers as OBD Feature Owner
  • Lead the technical analysis, trade off studies, FMEAs, design reviews and customer presentations for OBD feature
  • Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Accountable for all feature engineering planning on the project.
    • Responsible for applying and/or tailoring organizational SE processes to meet the specific requirements and constraints (cost and schedule) of the project.
    • Manage the execution of all Systems Engineering activities and product deliverables consistent with the SE process.
    • Support development program milestone Gate Reviews
    • Negotiate the technical requirements, scope and subcontract deliverables for OBD feature
    • Interpret Functional Safety (ISO 26262) requirements for the product development team
  • Support the definition and continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, methods, and tools
  • Document and shares best-practices
  • Mentor less experienced engineers; role model for BW Beliefs


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering is preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in related engineering field applying Systems Engineering principles throughout the product life cycle
  • In depth knowledge of requirements elicitation, analysis, definition, and management
  • 3 Years’ experience working with OBD
  • Automotive communications protocols such as CAN, FlexRay, XCP etc.
  • Experience with diagnostic protocols such as UDS, KWP, etc.
  • Organized and structured work-style and attention to detail are required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language required
  • Strong PC knowledge and experience are required
  • Travel 10% required
  • Preferred knowledge or experience:
    • ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP
    • Requirements management in Polarion
    • System modeling in SysML or other modeling language
    • System protection techniques as FMEA, FTA, etc.
    • ASPICE and ISO 26262

This position will adhere to Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner PTC/WHQ Safety Policy Manual, which includes the use of equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the employer requires.  This individual will work in manners that stress the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses.  He/she must take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and co-workers.  In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to the immediate supervisor.
