POSITION SUMMARY
BorgWarner Emissions &Thermal Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Laboratory Supervisor at our Technical Center in Asheville, NC. This person will support the laboratory function used during development, validation and manufacturing/sustain engineering support phases of product and system design. This is generally accomplished through the skilled use and coordination of Engineering development lab tools and equipment in assembling and testing prototype hardware while demonstrating strong key competencies. Accountabilities will include documentation of activities as appropriate.
Position is expected to handle facility items, including safety management within our GSSF framework, shipping and receiving and Vendor liaison. This will also involve training of new hires to the lab activity, along with coordinating the lab facilities for a particular product group.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lab Coordination – Responsible for coordinating the following activities relating to equipment and lab area for a specific product group:
    • Calibration needs and tracking
    • Repair needs of equipment
    • Data Acquisition Standardization and Procedures
    • Safety Issues
    • General housekeeping and organization of facility
    • Interface with other units of EtTS as needed
  • Capital Equipment – Responsible for the proper use of specific high capital equipment.  Calibration, proper fixtures, test techniques and safety protocol are to be developed and disseminated to all authorized uses.
  • Lab Development – Responsible for assembling prototype products.  Responsible for testing of products at direction of the product engineers and provide design and/or test improvement ideas arising from observed results.
  • Design Validation – Responsible for performing Performance, POC, EV, DV & PV testing and documenting test data for products.  Responsible for assisting in design, procurement and fabrication of test fixturing, setup and data collection methods.
  • Documentation – Responsible for reducing, summarizing and presenting data to engineers with insights for product improvement.
  • Identification of test method improvements for accuracy, speed and repeatability.
  • Procurement and Inventory of Components – Responsible for ordering, expediting and inventory tracking of prototype components at engineering direction.
  • Calibration and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Test & Instrumentation Skills – Responsible to maintain proficiency with evolving technologies through training and education.
  • Oversee Safety Co-op to ensure safety initiatives are driven for Marshall in accordance with GSSF guidelines, and collaborate with Safety committee/ element leaders.
  • Interface with internal resources and/or outside vendors to ensure the administration of facility and employee-related services including but not limited to maintenance/cleaning vendors, safety personal protective equipment items, and uniforms.
  • Oversee the shipping department and related activities, and manage Shipping Co-op to ensure daily activity completion. 
  • Support of plant problem solving initiatives as directed by product engineering.
  • Safety management within our GSSF framework, including Emergency Preparedness/Occ Medical Services, Fire Extinguisher Monthly Checks
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience in a technical field
  • 8 years of accumulated experience in facilities and/or in a lab environment
  • Prior supervision experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in the QS9000 procedure and documentation requirements of the lab activity
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize testing resources
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Extensive and specific product knowledge
  • Extensive machining and fabrication skills required
